The capital Sofia


Sofia is located in the Sofia valley with an area of 1,311 sq. km., At the foot of Vitosha Mountain
with an altitude of 550 m, Western Bulgaria. It is the largest and most populated city in Bulgaria. Every year
Sofia attracts visitors from near and far who want to enjoy its wide range of architectural styles, historical
sites, cultural events and nightlife of the city.
Sofia impresses with historical, religious and cultural landmarks. Every visitor finds something for
himself in the Bulgarian capital. For those who are passionate about history, Sofia offers museums such as:
National Museum of Military History, National Archaeological Museum, "Ivan Vazov" House-Museum.
The city has many ancient churches and temples, which represent three major world religions (Christianity,
Islam and Judaism) - the Bulgarian Patriarchal Cathedral "St. Alexander Nevsky", Sofia Mosque "Banya
Bashi" and Sofia Synagogue. For lovers of fine arts and sculptures, Sofia offers more than 50 galleries.
Some of the most famous are: National Gallery "Square 500", National Gallery - Sofia, Gallery "Absinthe"
and others.
Of course, Sofia doesn’t only offer cultural landmarks. It is also known for its diverse entertainment
and attractions for people of all ages. Examples are: Sofia Zoo (about 2,000 animals live there and you can
see a white rhino, hippopotamus, elephant, meerkat, Persian leopard, cougar, Egyptian vulture, white stork,
Nile crocodile, Chinese leatherback turtle, tiger python and other.), Karting track - Sofia, Climbing Hall
"Walltopia Climbing Center" (the largest and tallest climbing hall in Bulgaria), Museum of Illusions - Sofia,
"Paintball Sofia" in the open field, "Art Center laboratory" (the place where young and old work together
while having fun) and others.
In this bustling city, people can visit the many coquettish restaurants and boutiques of world-famous
designer brands for women's and men's clothing and shoes, located on "Vitosha Boulevard“. There are also
shopping areas in the central part of the streets: "Pirotska", "Rakovska", "Graf Ignatiev" and "Slaveykov
Square". Favorite places for visitors to Sofia in order to shop in stores of famous brands are large shopping
centers such as mall Serdika Center, mall Sofia, mall Paradise Center and others. After exhausting shopping,
people can indulge in the nightlife that the city has to offer. Among the most visited clubs are: "Maze Club",
"Theater Club", "Rock’n Rolla Bar & Club", "Art Club" and others. People can enjoy "The Secret of Al
Capone", the bar recreates the mafia empire of Al Capone, created during the Dry Regime in the US - an era
of prohibitions and is associated with smuggling alcohol, gas and other adult entertainment. For lovers of
quiet and cozy atmosphere Sofia offers a large number of restaurants with amazing cuisine and atmosphere.
Examples are: "The Little Things", "Boho", "Soul Kitchen" (offer selected fresh, environmentally friendly
products of Bulgarian origin) and others.
Sofia is a beautiful and fast-growing city, which over the years has managed to strengthen its motto –
"Ever Growing, Never Aging". At first glance, this is a city like everyone else. But when people look more
closely, they will see that bizarre and alluring magic with which the city fascinates its visitors. It is no
coincidence that the writer Isabelle Broome said: "I think that every city has its own magical places. All you
need is the desire to find them."
