Discuss the Motivating factors of Patriotism.

The requirements for the cultivating of patriotism can be distinguished between two sets of motivating
factors that are used by all those who claim that patriotism is a necessary moral virtue. External
motivating factors are those factors such as war, aggression, or other convicts. On the other hand,
Internal motivating factors are factors within the country. Four distinct impulses can be identified with
internal motivating factors, integrative, redistributive, compensatory and the responsibility impulse.
Integrative impulse is basically to provide a sense of unity and cohesion. The Redistributive impulse
aimed to ensure the redistributive property among the members of the political community and at the
same time it aims to cultivate mutual solidarity as democratic societies are. Furthermore, the
responsibility-based impulse is primarily viewed as a mechanism for cultivation of associative virtues
normally identified with patriotism such as loyalty, pride, etc.
