CHAPTER 1

INTRODUCTION

The workplace has sometimes been referred to as an inhospitable place for women due to the
multiple forms of gender inequalities present.
Some examples of how workplace discrimination negatively affects women’s earnings and
opportunities are the gender wage gap. Because of the numerous gender inequality issues that
exist, the workplace has been referred to as an unwelcoming environment for women.
The gender wage gap, the dearth of women in leadership position, and the longer time needed
for women vs men to advance in their careers are a few examples of how workplace
discrimination negatively affects women’s earnings and opportunities.
In other words, discrimination at employment lowers the socioeconomic standing of women.
Importantly, HR rules and HR-related decision-making are mostly to blame for such
discrimination against women.
Additionally, employees may encounter personal prejudice when they contact with
organizational decision-makers during HR operations or when they are informed of the results
of HR-related choices. Sometimes workers experienced discrimination, especially women’s
because of their race or ethnicity
Gender discrimination comes in many different ways or forms but generally it means that an employee
or worker treated differently or less favorably because of their gender, sex, or sexual orientation. Even
thought the words gender and sex have a different definition. Law against discrimination at work often
use them interchangeably. This is also known as filling complaint ahead of gender discrimination.
Women understand that its not always feel safe or comfortable at workplace because they will
experienced inequality or discrimination because of their gender or sex.

Women, especially women of color and LGBTQ+ women, continue to face barriers, insensitive questions,
and offensive statements. Despite having a federal law against gender inequality and decriminalization,
it creeps into the workplace. While some progress has been made, gender inequality continues even
today.

Additionally women facing Sexual harassment in the workplace confuses rewards for performance with
rewards for attractiveness and sexual availability.” Sexual Harassment is the biggest threat many women
face in the workplace.

The conclusion is that it is believed that a woman’s dedication to family and childcare makes her less
committed and unable to put in long working hours compared to her male colleagues, especially at high-
level jobs. Because Every woman, once in a lifetime, experiences gender inequality in the workplace.
CHAPTER 2

RELATED LITERATURE

Despite increased publicity and discussions surrounding the inequalities women face in the
workplace, there remains a tremendous amount of work to be done to close the gender gap.
According to a McKinsey study on women in the workplace, corporate America has made
important progress improving women’s representation over the past few years, especially since
the start of the pandemic, but there is still more progress to be made.
The research shows that women are underrepresented at every level, and women of color are
the most underrepresented group of all, lagging behind white men, men of color and white
women. The study revealed that the underrepresentation of women in high-level roles isn’t due
to lack of education or attrition rates.
Mandy Price is the co-founder and CEO of Kanarys Inc., a platform that gathers and analyzes
cultural and demographic data to help organizations build more inclusive work cultures. At
Kanarys, she is witness to the inequality and lack of action that society still suffers from today.
According to the Institute for Women’s Policy Research, “ women earn 49 cents for every dollar men
earn.” Even women have to take time off from work or leave work to shoulder the demands of raising
children or other family obligations. More than half of women leave the workforce within a year, which
is twice the rate of Men.

Unequal pay is a situation where women are paid less than men for doing the same work. Although
American women are more educated than men, still women in the U.S workforce earn less than their
male colleagues. The gender wage gap is real and it hurts women across the board by suppressing their
earnings and making it hard for them to balance work and family.

Additionally Motherhood makes women choose between work and family, and eventually, a woman
leaves work and chooses family. According to a study published in the American Journal of Sociology,
“mothers are 79% less likely to be hired 100%, less likely to be promoted, and are offered a lower
salary.”
CHAPTER 3

BODY DISCUSSION

It is disconcerting to see that even though the business community is well aware of the benefits
of a diverse workforce such as innovation, employee retention and increased financial returns –
there is still a lack of progress in closing the gender gap, we only focus on women’s experience
of discrimination.
Although men also face discrimination, the focus of this term paper is in women because they
are more often targets and discrimination is more psychologically damaging for women than for
men.
Thus, women will lack of particular job experienced because of inequality in gender. Further
more exposure benevolent sexism can harm women’s motivation and performance
Gender inequality in the workplace is complex phenomenon that can be seen in organizational
structure. In terms of work performance systematically favor men over women. There is ample
evidence that women experience biased performance on male typed task. Despite having equal
qualification to men. Sometimes women are more likely to be discriminated in terms of work or
Job.
Gender discrimination has a profound effect on mental health. Some of the psychological
effects of gender inequality include higher levels of stress, anxiety, depression, and post-
traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) in women and people of marginalized genders and they affect
it on how they work. Because of the discrimination they experience.
Gender inequality is a real issue and hurts women across the globe. Some women face gender
discrimination based on their gender, while some of them face, in addition to gender,
inequalities relating to sexual orientation, caste, and class. The workplace needs to
acknowledge these complex layers and make systematic changes to support women across the
organization. Therefore, this is the root cause of gender inequality in the workplace.
Historically, it was believed that men belong at work and women belong in the kitchen or home works.
This resulted in men dominating the workplace, which has resulted in the underestimation of women’s
talent and hard work. Yet, being more educated and hard-working, women are less often promoted to
higher positions than men. Gender biases work against women on the professional front. Additionally
Job segregation is one of the major causes of gender inequality in the workplace. In society, it is
believed that men are better equipped to handle certain jobs.
CHAPTER 4

SUMMARY OF THE TOPIC

In this paper, we have illustrated the impact of gender and inequality when it comes to work.
Consequently, we emphasize how inequalities affect women’s motivation and goal to work
hard.
First, we differ from their work by emphasizing that workplace is discrimination for women’s.
Moreover, reciprocal effects should occur, such that discriminatory can perpetuate gender
inequalities in organization.
CHAPTER 5

RECOMMENDATION

Organizations should take steps to mitigate institutional discrimination by focusing to reduce

gender inequality in work or job.
If organizational structures, clearly communicate in the importance of gender equality, then the
discriminatory or inequality in gender will be reduce or lessen.
Because a women’s still have a knowledge and experience when it comes to work or job.
Leaders, manager or boss should treat or elevate their workers equally whether they are
women or men because women have abilities that men cannot do and men also have abilities
that women cannot do but women can still keep up with men when it comes to work.
If the discrimination resulted in a loss of work or income, you had to take leave of absence,
were fired and had no income for a while or lost your job. You could also seek a compensation
for expenses related to any medical or health treatment you needed in the future because of
discrimination. Which could include anguish, stress, anxiety, pain, and suffering for loss or
damage to you reputation and loss of enjoyment or excitement resulting from discrimination.
