14. On my quali phase po, I have 12 po.

16. Is this a quali or quanti?

17. 00:00:48 Speaker 1

18. Mixed method po.

19. 00:00:49 Speaker 2

20. Okay. Quanti-quali.

21. 00:00:50 Speaker 1

22. Opo. So do you have any questions po before we proceed?

23. 00:00:56 Speaker 2

24. Sige, proceed.

25. 00:00:56 Speaker 1

26. To, so to start po we let… can you introduce first po Sir, please tell us the

following details po I will be sending through the chat box your age, your civil

status, your graduate program and your Doctor of Education, the year of your

graduation, your school, your current employment affiliation, and your current

position.

27. 00:01:25 Speaker 2

28. Verbal? OK, I'm 45 years old. I'm married. I am graduate of doctoral education,

major in educational leadership. And I graduated last August 2022 from National
Teachers College and presently I am a master teacher II of Paliparan National

High School.

29. 00:01:56 Speaker 1

30. Actually, I'm from DepEd po last time. Congressional Integrated High School po.

Transferred a year ago.

31. 00:02:03 Speaker 2

32. OK.

33. 00:02:07 Speaker 1

34. How long did you take your graduate program?

35. 00:02:12 Speaker 2

36. It lasts in six years.

37. 00:02:16 Speaker 1

38. And how long did it take you to complete your dissertation requirement?

39. 00:02:20 Speaker 2

40. Ah, no, I stopped for at least, at least one sem siguro mga two years?

41. 00:02:22 Speaker 1

42. Mabilis na rin po ‘yon Doc.

43. 00:02:35 Speaker 2

44. Nakakapagod jusko. Sobra nakakapagod. Yung patience mo doon sa mga… sa

yung mga pipirma. Doon talaga patience. Sige. Next question.

45. 00:02:48 Speaker 1

46. Sir, let's talk about the dissertation writing process. In National Teachers College,

can you walk me through, Sir, with a typical thesis writing process at NPC? What

are the major steps and milestone that you have to take po?

47. 00:03:05 Speaker 2

48. Ok, first is the title defense, yung step na yun. That was the very hard part for me

because you have to present at least three titles, then the one, dapat one of

those three titles isa yung mapili. Then after that you will go through another,

another defense about your chapter 1 to 3. Tapos iba pa ‘yung chapter 4 & 5. So

masyado ‘syang mahaba ‘yung proseso. Then, it’s very hard to communicate

with your adviser because they’re also busy. So talagang, as what I’ve said

earlier the patience is really a virtue. ‘Yun yung sinasabi nila talaga. Maiinis ka

pag hindi mo handa ang sarili mo. Siguro nararanasan mo ‘yon.

49. 00:04:02 Speaker 1

50. How many defense po ang nirerequire ni NTC?

51. 00:04:05 Speaker 2

52. OK, so ako honestly, I got 2. Kasi I did a reconvene, yung tinatawag nilang

reconvene, because they did not like the result of the statistics. That's why I

redefend my dissertation.

53. 00:04:29 Speaker 2

54. Once lang, pero if there are lot of questions to be answered and to revise your

manuscript. You have to undergo another defense.

55. 00:04:40 Speaker 1

56. OK po.
57. 00:04:41 Speaker 2

58. But but, no more payments on one-time payment only.

59. 00:04:45 Speaker 1

60. OK. And then right after the defense Doc, is there any more steps that you need

to take?

61. 00:04:53 Speaker 2

62. No, we have to submit it for… What do you call that yung stylistic ano editing?

then yung… Ano bang tawag ‘don? Nalimutan ko. Yung iaano mo sa plagiarism.

‘Yon ang required sa amin.

63. 00:05:19 Speaker 1

64. Ok po. So when it comes to your thesis topic and advisor, Sir, did you have the

freedom to choose or is it assigned to you po?

65. 00:05:30 Speaker 2

66. We have the freedom to choose.

67. 00:05:31 Speaker 1

68. Ok po. And when it comes to evaluating your work Doc, are there any specific

criteria or rubrics used to assess the quality of your work?

69. 00:05:44 Speaker 2

70. Yes, we have, we we were given a template, a schedules of things to do.

Example this month you should submit this the part of your your dissertation,

another month this one. You have to you have to ask for the signature of your

adviser, every meeting.

71. 00:06:08 Speaker 1

72. Ok po. So in general sir, based on your experience, how would you describe the

dissertation writing process in your graduate program?

73. 00:06:17 Speaker 2

74. Well, it was not easy. But it's worth it. Parang ano siya eh… parang until now, I

can't believe na maabot ko ‘yon. Na kaya pala. Pag pinagsikapan mo masarap

pala sa dulo. Yun proseso lang ang mahirap pero once you are there you have to

exert more effort and aim your goal. ‘Yun pala yon. ‘Yun pala ang sinasabi nila

na mahirap lang sa una pero laban.

75. 00:06:55 Speaker 1

76. Sir, is there any support coming from the school? Like for example are there

resources or services available for you in the writing process?

77. 00:07:06 Speaker 2

78. Beside of the of course the respondents, I asked the the help of the principal to to

ask the permission of the respondents to answer my ‘yon lang naman, pero in

terms of financial I did it alone. Of course, alam mo na ‘yon. And support of the

family, asawa yon. Pero sa school, yon lang yung mga respondents lang.

79. 00:07:38 Speaker 1

80. How about NTC, Sir? How did they supported you?

81. 00:07:43 Speaker 2

82. NTC? Well ano bang suporta ng NTC sa akin? Wala naman. Siguro reminders of

things to do. Yon lang naman. Pero siguro yun, yung moral support na nandyan

na. Sige you just proceed just proceed.

83. 00:08:04 Speaker 1

84. Based on NTC sir, how long does the typical thesis writing process take at your

school? Are there any specific deadlines or timelines that you must follow?

85. 00:08:17 Speaker 2

86. From the NTC? Yes, yung sinabi ko nga kanina na meron kaming timeline, na

parang meron kaming kontrata. Na kapag hindi mo natapos nitong, halimbawa,

you have to promise… Meron pa nga yung pinapaano saamin sa attorney

notarized, pina nonnotarized na kailangan itong promise mo ay matapos mo

itong dissertation mo, kasi kung hindi you have to do a refresher course.

87. 00:08:50 Speaker 1

88. How long sir, is the yung timeline pong yun?

89. 00:08:54 Speaker 2

90. One year.

91. 00:08:55 Speaker 1

92. One year lang po dapat matapos?

93. 00:08:58 Speaker 2

94. Oo. Kaya kaya kaya sa NTC kapag na natapos mo masarap yung feeling kasi

may time ano siya. May time..

95. 00:09:12 Speaker 1

96. Time pressured.

97. 00:09:14 Speaker 1

98. Oo talaga. Kaya ako nagstop. I stopped for 2 sems I think. Kasi nakaka-ano

nakakastress may work tayo, may iniintinding mga bata. Mahirap pilitin.

99. 00:09:27 Speaker 1

100. Sir, can you describe the dissertation format required by NTC?

101. 00:09:32 Speaker 2

102. Format? What do you think? from the title up to the research questions?

Yun ba yon? Parts of the dissertation?

103. 00:09:43 Speaker 1

104. Opo. How many chapters do you have?

105. 00:09:46 Speaker 2

106. How many? Pardon?

107. 00:09:49 Speaker 2

108. Chapters, 5. I think we have 5 chapters, yeah.

109. 00:09:53 Speaker 1

110. Traditional?
111. 00:09:49 Speaker 2

112. Oo, parang ganun din pa rin siya may introduction, may research

questions, may ano yun, yung interpretations parang TUP style din. Parang

ganon siya.

113. 00:10:09 Speaker 1

114. Ok po. So Sir, let's move on on the next part of our interview, which talks

about the challenges that you have met in completing your dissertation

requirement. What was the biggest challenge for you while writing your

dissertation?

115. 00:10:28 Speaker 2

116. Time pressure. Maybe because we have work. Then we have timeline to

follow. Yun talaga yon, kasi yung pera magagawan natin ng paraan yan, pero
yung deadline na kailangan. Parang yung mga yung pressure yung pressure na

yung mga kasabayan mo nauna na tapos naiwan ka na. Yun talaga yung time

pressure talaga yun. Yun yung yung, kasama na siguro yung pride na ikaw

nalang naiwan, yung ang most challenging sa akin, kaya it took me 6 years to

finish my doctorate. Time pressure.

117. 00:11:06 Speaker 1

118. How about Sir? Umm, a particular section or chapter in your dissertation

that was very difficult for you to write? And how were you able to approach it?

119. 00:11:21 Speaker 2

120. Hay nako! Ang pinakamahirap yung sa statistical treatment, to be honest, I

am not good. At that part. But you know, I really tried my best. I know that my

that my advisor was very, very patient for me that time because I don't really

know about statistics. Yun talaga ang pinakamahirap sa akin. So every now and

then I call my adviser. How I would explain it? Paano ko siya haharapin. That's

the, the the part that I, even during the compre, challenging part yung stat talaga.

I really hate that. Pero kaya, natapos naman.

121. 00:12:03 Speaker 1

122. Doc, how about writer's block? Have you experienced writer’s block? It is

the time where in you're writing your dissertation and you can no longer write, I

mean wala na po kayong…

123. 00:12:17 Speaker 2

124. Yes, that's true. Especially you are thinking about the plagiarism because

you cannot write diba without without looking at other resources. So how can
you? How can you modify the the writings things there, yun ang

nakakachallenge, paano ko ba babalibaligtarin makalusot lang ito sa plagiarism.

Yun ang pinaka yung tinatawag na… wala ka nang maisip talaga saang

resources ko pa siya kukunin dun namemental, kaya sabi ko kanina I rest for at

least 2 sems kasi hindi talaga kakayanin.

125. 00:12:52 Speaker 1

126. How…Ilang percent po yung plagiarism na allowed sa…

127. 00:12:57 Speaker 2

128. Ay yung… kasi 20% dapat ang madetect nila. Okay na sa kanila yon.

Parang umabot ako ng 30. Nagpatest ulit, ako naging 11 na lang. 20% ata yung

allowed nila.

129. 00:13:19 Speaker 1

130. Ok Sir, there are there any more difficulties that you have faced in the

dissertation writing that you would like to share po?

131. 00:13:28 Speaker 2

132. One of my panelists talagang pinahirapan ako because she can't believe

that during my reconvene onti na lang yung onti na lang yung pinarerevise sa

akin so hindi siya naniniwala. So, ang gusto niya isend ko sa kanya ang video ng

final defense ko. Unfortunately, hindi maretrieve ng graduate study. So, hindi ako

makakagraduate kasi hindi siya napirma, yun ang… yun talaga yun. So ang

ginawa ko, sumulat ako sa dean, sumulat ako sa registrar, lahat, sumulat ako sa

student affairs na ano ang gagawin ko hindi ko maproduce yung ano. Hindi

naman ako nagsisinungaling, my adviser was there. Nandun ang ibang panelist,
si ma’am mahigpit talaga yung ano na yon, na nandon naman yung ibang

panelists na makakapagtestify that those are their comments and suggestions,

recommendations sa dapat gawin ko. Hindi lang talaga siya makapaniwala na

onti onti na lang ang gagawin ko. Pero sa kalaunan naman…

133. 00:14:51 Speaker 2

134. Again, again ma’am.

135. 00:14:52 Speaker 1

136. Hindi po siya present during your defense?

137. 00:14:55 Speaker 2

138. She was there. Kaya lang matagal, kasi nga matagal parang nawala na sa

isip niya. Yun nga ang balik sa kanya. Bakit hindi mo maalala? Or wala kabang

notes about that? Kasi panelist ka dapat alam mo yung ano. Ayun, then, with the

help of the dean atsaka yung chairman ng aking final defense ayon, nakumbinsi

naman siya na pumirma. Then finally, I got my diploma.

139. 00:15:24 Speaker 1

140. Ok po. Is there anything else doc that you would like to share na challenge

po during the dissertation writing?

141. 00:15:35 Speaker 2

142. Challenge? Wala na akong maisshare kundi lesson. Na dapat talaga na

kung may gusto ka pagsikapan.

143. 00:15:47 Speaker 1

144. That's true, doc.

145. 00:15:49 Speaker 1

146. So let's move on the last part of this interview, it's the use of self regulation

in writing. How are you able to control your emotions during the writing process?

Your how did you plan for it? How did you monitor your performance and reflect

with your performance yun po yung self-regulation. So how can you describe the

time when you had to regulate your emotions during the writing process. Like for

example, when you were to revise your writing extensively, how did you

approach your extensive revision process?

147. 00:16:29 Speaker 2

148. I set my mind that I have to finish this. No one can do this except me. Sabi

ko sa sarili ko hindi puwede na hindi ko to matatapos. So I really set the goal na

kailangan tapusin ko siya. Kailangan mawala na itong panelists. Hindi ko na sila

maalala, tatapusin ko na to. That's it. Yun lang ang motivation ko sa sarili ko,

kailangan ko tapusin na talaga siya. Ito yung labanan ngayong eh diba you have

to study. You cannot be promoted if you were just sitting down kailangan talaga

ng aral. So kailan ko gagawin yon?

149. 00:17:20 Speaker 1

150. How about the time doc that you receive feedback that feedback for from

your writing that was difficult to to hear. How do you want to those feedbacks po?

151. 00:17:32 Speaker 2

152. Well, I accept that. That's their role. That's why they are the panelists.

Tinanggap ko lang na mas magaling siguro ang mga yan kasi nandyan na sila

eh. They are there to, to critique your work. So yun lang tinaggap ko lang yung
role nila as as critics as as superior for for me. Yun lang tinanggap ko. Yes lang

ng yes. You revise this. Yes. Do you agree? yes.

153. 00:18:09 Speaker 1

154. How about Doc, when you have to balance multiple things at once,

especially the working while writing your dissertation, how did you manage for

your time effectively?

155. 00:18:21 Speaker 2

156. There are so many sleepless nights. With my wife, because my wife is the

one who retyped siya yung nagrereencode ng mga ano kasi sabi ko nga hindi

ako marunong sa mga ganyan, so with the help of my wife yun nairaos namin

yon, so in regards with napagsabay yung trabaho at ito well time management

lang time management lang yung ginawa natin. Pag tuwing may extra time

gagawin sa gabi or minsan may inaabsentan na ang klase para lang matapos to

kahit may… Kailangan talaga, minsan lang naman para lang matapos to.

157. 00:19:05 Speaker 1

158. How about distraction, Sir, have you experienced distractions while

writing? And how did you handle po distraction?

159. 00:19:15 Speaker 2

160. Because it was pandemic, the time when I was, when I was furnishing my

papers so nasa bahay ang distractions, ang mga anak. You cannot concentrate

because they are you are with them 24 hours a day. Ayan yan ang distraction.

Yun lang yun kasi maliliit pa sila hindi ka makapagconcentrate yun nga. Sabi ko

nga kanina with regards to money nagagwan ng paraan pero yung distraction
hindi. Mga bata, kasi pag sa pag ginagawa mo sa bahay you cannot control the

noise. Yun lang

161. 00:19:57 Speaker 1

162. OK, so here's my last question Doc. What strategies did you use to stay

motivated and focused throughout your writing process?

163. 00:20:08 Speaker 2

164. I… You should believe yourself. Yun lang naman. Wala ka lang ibang

kakapitan kundi ang sarili. That's my motivation. If others can do, why can't I?

Pag kakayanin nila, kakayanin ko rin yan sarili

165. 00:20:29 Speaker 1

166. Thank you po. Other than that, Doc, are there any more personal

strategies that you would like to share that aid you in completing your study?

Baka po meron kayong strategy na puwede rin nating ishare sa iba?

167. 00:20:44 Speaker 2

168. My strategy is that. When I plan example. Mahilig akong mag timeframe

eh. Hilig ko mag timeframe na kailangan this month may maachieve ka.

Pagsinabing kailangan tapusin to, kailangan tatapusin ko ‘to. May timeframe

talaga, mahilig akong magtimeframe.

169. 00:21:08 Speaker 1

170. Ok, doc. Before we conclude doc, is there anything else that you would

like to share on our topics or challenges the process in your school and your use

of self-regulation?

171. 00:21:22 Speaker 2

172. Well siguro as to inspire na lang writers ano, and in achieving a dream it's

not easy. You need you really need hard work. You really need perseverance.

You really need to be resilient at all times, yun na lang siguro. Kasi hayaan na

lang natin yung mga nega na ayaw umasenso professionally. Meron tayong mga

kasamang ganyan di ba? Okay na yan teacher 1 na lang ako, prof ano…

instructor 1 na lang ako, assistant instructor. Dapat hindi ganon. Magserve tayo

as model sa kanila. Na huwag nating ilalagay sa isip na walang pera sa

education. Hindi totoo yan. Nasa ano yan, mag-aral kang mabuti lalapit yan pag

merong mataas ang annual at yan ang labanan ngayon, aral.

173. 00:22:24 Speaker 1

174. Opo. Tama po doc! Doc thank you so much po. That will be the end of my

interview. I really do appreciate po your time and also… kahit po late night and

your participation in this study, rest assured po that your identity, doc, and your

responses will be treated with anonymity and confidentiality. Doc, may also ask if

ever po that I have confusions in transcribing your interview. May I do a follow up

question po sa inyo?

175. 00:22:51 Speaker 2

176. Yes, you can do it.

177. 00:22:54 Speaker 1

178. Will be ending po the rec…
