Legalization of Abortion in the Philippines

Abortion is one of the most controversial issues surfacing for decades, it has been around for centuries. However,
it is not yet legal in some countries, including the Philippines. In this essay I will attempt to justify why legalization
of abortion should be good not only for our country, but also protects women. But before everything else, abortion
is the termination of pregnancy. According to statistics, 1.1 million induced abortions occur in the country annually,
a number that was estimated to increase by 14.6% in 2020. And 1000 Filipino women die each year from post-
abortion complications. 75% of Filipino women seeking abortions are unable to support another baby financially.
Surprisingly, 10% or more of women report experiencing sexual violence.

With that being said, when abortion is illegal, some women may resort to an unsafe and unhealthy method that
may cause further damage to her health. By legalizing abortion, women will be ensured a safer and healthier
termination of their pregnancy and reducing its health risk associated with unsafe abortion rather than living in
fear by being caught for a crime that they had no choice to begin with. Unsafe abortions are a leading cause of
maternal mortality worldwide. By legalizing abortion, governments can regulate and monitor the procedure,
ensuring that it is carried out under safe conditions by trained healthcare professionals. This can significantly
reduce the number of maternal deaths related to unsafe abortions. Moreover, a woman should be entitled with
her own body, if a women decided to terminate that fetus it is her body, her choice. There are numerous reasons
why a women would want to terminate their pregnancy: Financial instability, caused by sexual harassment or
teenage pregnancy. Some women who are forced to keep the baby may end up being emotionally due to the laws,
but women are not the only one who are affected by these laws, kids are one of the most affected since they also
experience the consequence of having financially, physically, or emotionally unstable parents. Lastly, Unintended
pregnancies can have significant socioeconomic implications, particularly for women in vulnerable situations.
Legalized abortion can provide an option for women facing financial difficulties, limited resources, or those who
are not prepared to become parents, thereby potentially reducing the burden on families and society as a whole.

In conclusion, it's important to note that the arguments in favor of legalizing abortion should be considered
alongside opposing viewpoints. Ultimately, the decision on whether to legalize abortion depends on a society's
values, cultural context, and the legislative process.
