Fact to include:
For:
- abortion rate is 37 per 1,000 people in countries that prohibit abortion altogether or allow it only in
instances to save a woman’s life, and 34 per 1,000 people in countries that broadly allow for abortion
- But when governments restrict access to abortions, people are compelled to resort to clandestine,
unsafe abortions, particularly those who cannot afford to travel or seek private care. Which brings us to
the next point
- Criminalising abortion does not stop abortions, it just makes abortion less safe
- They estimate that 25 million unsafe abortions take place each year
-
-
Against:
- They say that if women couldn't have abortions so easily, governments would have to invest more
money in supporting mothers.
- Some people oppose abortion because it can damage the long-term physical and emotional health of
women who have an abortion. BUT HOW?
- So, abortion on demand is vital if men are to be able to have women on demand, and thus men are
arguing for abortion so that they can continue to exploit women.
- ectopic pregnancy
- (e.g., secondary infertility; ectopic pregnancy; spontaneous abortion and stillbirth; complications of
pregnancy; and preterm birth, small for gestational age, and low birthweight);
-

Topic: is abortion ethical?

Let’s just say you were a victim of rape, your now pregnant with a someone’s baby. You don’t know who this
man is, or what history he has. Do you keep the baby? There are many assets and liabilities for this matter.
Whether abortion is ethical or not, can become an extremely controversial topic. If you keep this child, you are
now committing to the care taking and support of a child for the rest of your life, as well as having the constant
thought that this child is a result of a sexual assault case. Legal abortion can be good because it dramatically
reduces the level and risk of women undergoing hazardous and unmedicated approaches to abortion. Therefore,
criminalising abortion does not stop abortion from happening, it just makes abortion less safe. However, if you
don’t keep this innocent child, you are keeping yourselves from the problem This is just one example of the two
controversial sides being compared.

Why would abortion be good? You are simply exterminating an innocent life. This child that you are bearing is
innocent, no criminal record, no theft or murder, not a word has left this child’s mouth. In exterminating this
child, you are exterminating the future and opportunity ahead of him or her. The legal access to abortion will
increase the level of abortion dramatically. Abortion doesn’t just exterminate a child’s life; it has a detrimental
impact towards the health of the women as well. Many health issues arise in result of an abortion including,
future childbearing and pregnancy outcomes including secondary infertility, ectopic pregnancy, spontaneous
abortion and still birth, complications of pregnancy, and preterm birth, small for gestational age and low
birthweight, as well as, and increase risk of breast cancer, mental health disorders and premature death, etc. We
can also see abortion as an issue sexual misjudgement and misuse. The higher demand is vital for men to have a
higher demand on women, and consequently men are arguing for abortions so that they can continue to exploit
women. Participating in abortion also increases the risk of ectopic pregnancy occurring in the body of the
women. Ectopic pregnancy is when the fertilised egg implants outside the uterus. The fertilised egg cannot
survive without the uterus, and if left to grow it may damage nearby organs, and cause life threatening blood
loss.

But consider the amount of unsafe and unmedicated attempts of abortion occurring globally. The simple
explanation for this is the fact that abortions are not legal and not accessible to everybody in places globally.
When governments restrict access to abortion, people are compelled and drawn to the idea
But when governments restrict access to abortions, people are compelled to resort to clandestine, unsafe
