Evidence Based Nursing: Intervention

1. Demonstrating the proper way of hygiene on a lice infested scalp.


a. This intervention is to be considered to prevent head lice.
b. Why? When the human body produces too much sebum, it builds up on your scalp, and
with less frequent showers, dead skin, and residue builds up on your scalp (Center for
Disease Control and Prevention, 2022).
c. Lindane Shampoo 1% is a second line treatment for head lice. Apply once through
Topical Administration. Be sure to avoid the shampoo from getting into your eyes or
mouth as it can be toxic to the brain and other parts of the nervous system (Center for
Disease Control and Prevention, 2019).
i. Repeat the application once 7 to 10 days later to eliminate newly hatched lice.

Demonstrating the proper way of hygiene on a lice infested scalp by applying Lindane Shampoo
1%. It is a treatment for head lice, apply once through topical administration, and be sure to avoid the
shampoo from getting into your eyes or mouth as it can be toxic to the brain and other parts of the
nervous system (Center for Disease Control and Prevention, 2019). Repeat the application once 7 to 10
days later to eliminate newly hatched lice (WebMD, n.d).
