INSTRUCTIONAL OBJECTIVES

At the end of the lesson, the learners are expected to:

1. Identify the common causes and sources of air pollution, which are shown on the film;
2. Detect quality of the air in their surroundings through simple experimentations;
3. Manifest concentration and cooperation while viewing the film.

I prepared a video clip from which you can get an idea of

what we will discuss today.

Can you explain the causes and sources of air pollution

based on the video?

(calling students to answer)

Unlocking Difficulties

We are going to show you some unfamiliar words that we

are going to encounter during our discussion.

something.

installation which emits or may emit any air pollution.

4. Airborne diseases- bacteria or viruses that are most

commonly transmitted through small respiratory droplets.
5. Associated- If one thing is associated with another, the
two things are connected with each other.

buildings can be more seriously polluted than outdoor air.
Many indoor air pollutants and pollutant sources include:
asbestos; formaldehyde, which is associated with many
consumer products including certain wood products and
aerosols; airborne pesticide residues; chloroform;
perchloroethylene (associated particularly with
drycleaning); paradichlorbenzene (from mothballs and air
fresheners); and many disease-causing microorganisms.
Smoking is the most familiar air pollutant source.

Today the Clean Air Act 1999 sets the standards for air
quality as a response of the government to and the
pollution problem. It has covered several areas, including
the use of only unleaded gasoline and waste management. (the student are listening to the
discussion)
Generalization

Based on what you learn can you write the six major air
pollutants in the concept map.
Fixing Skills
Let’s see! If you really learn in the topic, get 1/4 sheet of
paper.
Direction: Write x if the statement is false and write

1. Smoking is the best solution for air pollution.

2. Other pollutants are lead and radiation.
3. Air pollution causes airborne diseases.

Application (Group Activity)

For the group activity, I will group you into five and each
group will explain the cause and effect of air pollution.

With the help of an activity card (Attachment A) Conduct

simple experiment in your home to detect the quality of
air in their immediate surroundings.

Procedures

1. Cut cards from the white scrap paper.

2. Choose several areas to test:

-backyard

-classroom
-playground

-to any safe area near or within the school

3. Label each card with each location and spread a layer

of clean petroleum jelly on it.

4. Take the card (jelly out side) in place.

5. Let them leave their cards in the designated area.

6. After two days , gather the cards and look closely at

the accumulation on the jelly.
