A Detailed Lesson Plan in Science

I. Objectives
A. Content Standards:
The learner demonstrates understanding on air pollution specifically on
its the sources, effects, impact and control of pollutants by making an
informative essay.
B. Performance Standards:
The learner creates an infographic regarding air pollution emphasizing
the effects on human health,
C. Learning Competencies
At the end of the lesson, the learners should be able to:
1. identify the sources, effects, impacts and control of air pollution;
2. create an infographic of the sources, effects, impacts and control of
air pollution; and
3. determine and emphasize the effects of air pollution on human health.

Yes ma’am.
B. Motivation
Good morning, class!
Good morning ma’am!
We will start of lesson on air
pollution, pollutant sources,
effects, impacts and control.
What do you know about air It is the release of pollutants such
pollution? as gases, particles, biological
molecules into the air that is
harmful to human health and

What do you see? Air pollutants being released in the

and answer my questions
afterwards.

pollution-101/)
What is the video all about?
About air pollution.
C. Activity/Analysis
Air pollution refers to any
physical, chemical or biological
change in the air. It is the
contamination of air by
harmful gases, dust and smoke
which affects plants, animals
and humans drastically.
There is a certain percentage
of gases present in the
atmosphere. An increase or
decrease in the composition of
these gases is harmful to
survival. This imbalance in the
gaseous composition has
resulted in an increase in
earth’s temperature, which is
known as global warming.
Aside from the factories, what
do you think are the other
sources of pollutants? -Volcanic Eruption
-vehicles
-landfills
-burning of fossil fuels
-insecticides
-pesticides
-fertilizers
-land fills
-mining operations
Very good!
Volcanic eruption is an
example of natural sources of
pollutants. Insecticides,
pesticides and fertilizers are
agricultural sources. Do you
know that burying our wastes
also produces methane that is
one source of pollutant? This
falls under landfills.
They affect our health.
Given the examples you just
mentioned, what do you are
their effects?
Very good! Pollutants can
result to several respiratory
disorders. What else? Heart failure
Asthma
Yes. All of that are correct.
What other cause will air -Global Warming
pollution bring? -Acid rain
-harm plants and animals
-thinning of ozone layer
Very good.
The following pictures are
some effects of air pollution.

It lowers the mortality rate of

These are the effects of air humans as well as animals and
pollutions. What do you think plants.
is the long-term effects of this
air pollution?
No ma’am.

Very good! However, do you

think it is possible to stop the
air pollution?
Yes, our daily activities can
always cause air pollution,
however, we can control it.
How do you think can we -Reduce the use of vehicles.
control air pollution? -Instead of using private vehicles,
use the public transportation.
-Conserve energy.
-Minimizing the use of products
that requires burning.

Very good!

D. Abstraction
Air pollution refers to any
physical, chemical or biological
change in the air. It is the
contamination of air by harmful
gases, dust and smoke which
affects plants, animals and
humans drastically. Volcanic
Eruption, fossil fuel emissions,
landfills, agricultural practices
and mining operations are some
sources of this pollution. This
affects human health, animals,
plants and our environment. We
may not be able to stop air
pollution but we can control it
through reducing our use of
vehicles, conserving energy, and
minimizing the use of products
that requires burning.
