I. As a grade 1 teacher, you will teach addition of whole number with sum up to 99,
using CPA (Concrete, Pictorial, and Abstract) approach, how will you do it?

Concrete:
I will ask them to hold 14 paper sticks on their left hand while 17 on the right hand
then let them combine and count these sticks together getting the sum of 31.

Abstract:
I’ll ask them to draw a 14 single looking like stick and 17 others then let them count
those drawing of sticks one by one until they count to 31.

Pictorial:
I’ll ask them to write the number 14 and add the plus symbol, followed by number 17
and the equal sign and the sum 31.

II. How will you show solve the following problem using Block Model Approach?

a. Mark baked 10 ginger bread men while Nelson baked 12 gingerbread men. How
many gingerbread men did they bake altogether?

M M M M M M M M M M N N N N N N N N N N N N
10 M-blocks + 12 N-blocks = 22 blocks
- Mark and Nelson baked total of 22 gingerbreads all together
b. Lovi bought 20 chicken and duck eggs. If there were 7 duck eggs, how many
were chicken eggs?

C C C C C C C C C C C C C C C C C C C C D D D D D D D
20 blocks – 7 d-blocks = 13 c-blocks
- There were 13 chicken eggs.

c. Jack and Peter divided their rewards in a ratio of 3:5 respectively. Peter got Php
80.00 more than Jack. How much was the total reward? How much did the two
boys get?

P P P P P J J J

5x – 3x = 80
2x = 80
x = 40

40 40 40 40 40 40 40 40

40 * 8 = 320
- 320 is the total reward

P 40 P 40 P 40 P 40 P 40 J 40 J 40 J 40

- Peter got 200 while Jack got 120
