Answer the following questions.

1. What are the basic Science process skills? Describe each.

The five basic Science skills are observing, classifying, communicating, measuring, inferring,

and predicting. Observing happens when we gather information through any of our five senses.

Concluding that a thing became larger, odor has been stronger and feeling that the current room

is colder are examples of observation. Classifying is just the process of organizing things

depending on their properties, you can group certain things based on their shape, texture, smell

and even colors. Communicating is where the knowledge is being transferred, we can do it by

simply putting it into words or making graphic organizers to impart the information. Measuring is

just the way we accurately differentiate the rate of changes on things involved in a certain

experiment before we can conclude something. Inferring is making educated guess rooted from

the previous basic Science process skills. Lastly, predicting is how we determine the possibility

of a certain thing to occur based on our knowledge from previous experiments and experiences.

2. In what lesson/topic in science will you integrate these basic processing skills?

It might be on Chemistry specifically about matter. Since children’s will to learn and become

interested in a certain lesson depends on how they understand its relevance, I’ll make them
realize first how they’ve been encountering matter their whole life. A specific lesson that I

choose are the different states of matter and how it changes. Through these, it will enable

students to utilize their senses on understanding the properties of a thing, let them classify

these based on shared characteristics, measure how these things differ from each other, share

their knowledge through words or graphic symbols, make assumptions about what will happen

in certain scenarios like what happens to water once heated and let them predict what will

happen based on their knowledge about matter.

3. Why does integrating the science process skills with classroom lessons make the

learning experiences richer and more meaningful for students? Give specific example.

Science process skills serve as guide for students in understanding certain lesson step by step.

When they do this one at a time, they are more focused and more likely to enjoy the lesson

since they can get along with it and be guided, avoiding any knowledge gap. They will also feel

engaged throughout the process since it requires them to observe, classify, communicate,

measure, infer and predict on their own or with the help of their classmates. What makes it

richer is the fact that it is based on science, science opens the door for the discovery of truth

and offers accurate understanding about how things in the world actually works that ignites the

interest of students to learn more. A specific example is a lesson about the state of matter.

Once the science process skills are integrated properly, students will surely develop concrete

knowledge and accurate understanding about matter. Since they encounter this thing all the

time, numerous scenarios will challenge their mind to apply what has been learned that will

boost their interest to learn more than state of matter.
