 The teacher will call the next student to share his/her thoughts in words
and give feedback afterwards.
6. Review
 The teacher will facilitate the drill about the previous topic (Text
Structures).
B. Lesson Proper
1. Analysis
 Have the students participate in the game called “Pass It On”. A message
will be whispered to one of the students, who then pass it on to the following
student and so on until the final student had heard the message.
2. Abstraction
 Students participate actively when the teacher present and discuss the ff:
o Definition and purpose of summarizing;
o Basic rules in summarizing; and
o Different techniques in summarizing (SWBST, SAAC Method, 5
W’s and 1 H, First Then Finally, and Give Me the Gist)
o Present the short film entitled “Alma” produced by Rodrigo Blaas
and let students summarize it using their preferred technique.
3. Application
 Students will do the activity “What’s More” by pair, on page 21 in the
module.

4. Assessment
 Students will answer the assessment on page 26 of the module.
5. Generalization
 Have the students recite and answer the ff. questions verbally:
o What are the different techniques in summarizing academic texts?
o Why is summarizing important in understanding academic texts?
6. Assignment
 Review the various techniques in summarizing academic texts. Be ready for
your group activity next meeting.

describe it.

o Definition of a thesis statement;
o Elements and types of a thesis statement; and

 Students will answer the Activity 2, on pages 3-4 of the module.

 In preparation for the next lesson, study how to write a topic outline.

Remarks: This lesson is divided into two parts; Identifying Thesis Statement will be discussed on
the first day, and Outlining Reading Texts that will be discussed on the second day because it
cannot be accomplished in one session. Thus, the assessment and wrap-up will be done the session
after the discussion of these topics.
