WHAT IS ART:
INTRODUCTION AND ASSUPMTION
ART
Also called (to distinguish it from other art forms) visual art, a visual object or experience
consciously created through an expression of skill or imagination.
-Latin arts which means “craft or specialized form of skill.”
-Arts in medieval latin meant “any special form of book-learning, such as grammar or logic
magic or astrology”.
HUMANITIES
The term Humanities comes from the Latin word, “Humanitas”. It generally refers to art,
literature, music, architecture, dance and the theatre—in which human subjectivity is
emphasized and individual expressiveness is dramatized.

3 TYPES OF ASSUMPTION IN ART APPRECIATION


1. ART IS UNIVERSAL
-timeless, spanning generation and continents through and through generation.
2. ART IS NOT NATURE
-it is a man's expression of his reception of nature art is man's way of interpreting nature.
3. ART INVOLVES EXPERIENCES
-it is a man's expression of his reception of nature art is man's way of interpreting nature.

Art uses beauty, emotion, and drama to influence the audience into expressing their feelings.
R.G. Collingwood argues that art is not an object that you can fabricate, it is the expression of
emotion in your mind
