What comes in your mind when
you hear the word
TECHNOLOGY?
Technology for Learning and Teaching:
Epowers educators to efficiently personalize learning with
access to data, content and the cloud. Prepares students for the
21st century workforce with modern technology skills and
competencies. Helps educators create blended learning
environments that make learning relevant to students’ lives.
Gives educators access to real-time feedback
through digital formative and summative
assessments and data.
OBJECTIVES:
*Explain the basic concept in understanding ICT in
Education.
*Identify the ways on how ICT fulfill the role in (a)
motivating and engaging students, (b) support
students’ learning needs and (c) preparing students
for the future; and
*Discuss the charge of role in teachers and students
as influenced by the integration of ICT.
LESSON 1: ROLES OF ICT IN TEACHING
FOR LEARNING
3 Domains of Educational Technology
According to Stotic (2015)

Technology as Technology
Technology
a Teaching as Learning
as a tutor
Tool Tool
Technology as a tutor
Together with the teacher technology can support to
teacher to teach another person or technology when
programmed by the teacher can be a tutor to its own. The
teacher will simply switch on switch off radio programs
television programs are play dvds or
cds that contain educational program.

We need to be critical
of the information
Technology as a Teaching Tool
Like a tutor, technology is a teaching tool, But can
never replace A teacher. This is like a handyman, which
is just there to be reached. Like any other tool, it is
being used to facilitate and lighten the work of the
teacher.
Technology as a Learning Tool
While the teacher utilize technology as the tool for
teaching likewise it is effective tool for learning. As a
learning tool, it makes learning outcomes that call for
technology- assisted teaching. Even the teachers who are
teaching can utilize similar tools for learning. As a
learning tool, it is very interesting
that even elderly uses these tool
for leaving for life.
Benefits of Technology
in
EDUCATION
Technology provides Enormous support to the
Teachers as the facilitator of learning
It transforms a passive classroom to an active and
interactive one, with audio-visual aids, charts and
models, smart classrooms,
e-learning classrooms,
which motivate and
increased attention
level of learners.
Technology has modernized the teaching-
learning environment

The teachers are assisted and supplemented with

appropriately structured instructional materials for daily
activities. There are varied available
technology-driven resources
which can be utilized for
remedial lesson or activities. Likewise,
there are also a lot of technology-driven
resources that can be used for
enrichment purposes.
Technology improves teaching-
learning process and ways of
teaching.
This will make the act of teaching more
efficient and effective. There are arrays of
teaching methods and strategies that can use
technology which are found compatible with
learning styles. Howard gardner tells us that
there is a genius in every child. This implies
that there must be varied ways of teaching as
there are many varied ways of learning. All
the learning styles can find support from
technology, so that teaching will be more
effective and efficient.
Technology opens new field in educational
researchers
The areas of teaching testing and evaluation are enhance by
technologies for teaching and learning. Current researchers will be
no longer find difficulty in interpreting test, assessment and other
evaluation results. There are available programs
that can analyze an independent results with
speed and accuracy. Reference retrieval is also
hastened because many of the research
materials are in digital form. Technology
has also provided access to big data that can
be processed for problem solving in inquiry.
Technology adds to the competence of
teachers and inculcates scientific
outlook.
Through the utilization of theories of learning and intelligence,
which are explained in references
uploaded in the net, the teachers
are encouraged to imbibe the
source this information with speed
and accuracy.
Technology supports teachers
professional development

With the demand of continually professional

development for teachers, the availability of technology
provides alternative way of attending professional
development online. For those who are involved as
providers of continuing professional development
trainers facilitators organizers, they can level up or
enhance their delivery systems with the support of
technology tools.
Benefits of technology
for learners and
learning
¹ Support learners to learn how to
learn on their own. ( Independent
learning)
There are three
categories of
knowledge according
to edbert (2009)
DECLARATIVE KNOWLEDGE

It consists of the discrete pieces of information

that answer the question what, who, when and
where. It is often learned through memorization
of facts, drill and practice. It can be learned by
simple mnemonics and conceptual maps.
Declarative knowledge is a fundamental
knowledge necessary for student to achieve
more complex higher-order thinking such as
critical thinking and creativity inquiry and
production.
STRUCTURAL KNOWLEDGE

It consists of facts or pieces of

declarative knowledge put
together to attain some form of
meaning.
Pencil- it is something used to
write. Is referred to as structural
knowledge. It can be presented by
concept map categorization or
classification.
PROCEDURAL KNOWLEDGE
It is a knowledge in action or the
knowledge of how to do something it
is based on facts but learn to the
process of procedural knowledge.
Examples include how to drive car,
how to use a cellphone, how to speak
english. Procedural knowledge is
indicated by a performance task or
graphical representation of concept
.
² Technology enhances
learners communication
skills through social
interaction
3 BASIC COMMUNICATION
PATTERNS:

•Point to point, 2-way or one-To-one

•One-to-many outbound
•Many-to-many
What benefits can
we derived from
technology
supported
communication?
Enables any teacher to guide the learners
virtually and making learning unlimited because
communication and social interaction go beyond a
school day Or a school environment.
Enhances students freedom to express and
exchange ideas freely without the snooping eyes
of the teacher face to face.
Enables learners to construct meaning
from joint experiences between the two or
more participants in communication.
Help learners solve problem from multiple
sources since there is limitless sources for
information that the teacher can direct or
refer to the learners.
Teachers learners to communicate with
politeness talking turns in sending
information and giving appropriate feedback.
Enhances collaboration by using
communication strategies with wider
community and individuals in a borderless
learning environment.
Develops critical thinking, problem solving
and creativity throughout the
communication
³ Technology upgrades
learners higher-order
thinking skills like
critical thinking,
problem solving and
creativity.
CRITICAL THINKING

Is part of the cluster of higher order

thinking skills, it refers to the ability to
interpret, explain, analyze,evaluate, infer
and self-regulate in order to make good
decisions with the use of technology. One
will be able to evaluate the credibility of
the source, as appropriate questions,
become open-minded, defend a
position on an issue and draw
conclusion with caution.
HOW TO DEVELOP STUDENT'S
CRITICAL THINKING?
•Ask the right
questions.

•Use critical
thinking task with
appropriate level
of challenge.
Sample ways that teachers
should do:
1.Vary the questions asked.
2. Introduce new technologies.
3. Modify the learners groupings.
4. Modify the critical thinking task.
5. Encourage curiosity.
CREATIVITY

is characterized as
involving the ability to
think flexibly, originally
and elaborately.
7 creative strategies according
to Osborn and Bob Eberle (1963)
Substitute
Combine
Adapt
Modify
Put to another use
Eliminate
Reverse
Suggestions to support
students creativity

1. Provide an enrichment environment.

2. Teach creative thinking strategies.
3. Allow learners to show what they
can do.
4. Use creativity with technology.
LESSON 2:
Understanding
the Basic
Concepts
Related to
Technology
All things that used as teaching tool are
called technology. This technology is not
only refers to the modern equipment
used in teaching but it is any items that
can be used to facilitate teaching and
learning process

ECHNOLOGY
ICT LITERACY
. It is the use of digital technology
communication tools and or network's
to as access manage integrate evaluate
create and communicate information
in order to function
in knowledge society
EDUCATIONAL TECHNOLOGY
it refers to the use of technology in
teaching and learning. It includes both
the non digital materials like flip
charts, pictures, models, relias, etc.
And digital electronic tools like
hardware, software
connections, etc.
Three types of
educational technology
1. Synchronous and
Asynchronous
2. Linear Learning
3. Collaborative Learning
There are also some reasons why
technology should be implemented in the
classroom. Based on Wainwright(2016),

*Technology will help students in the future career

especially those who need wireless
technology.
*Technology gives students the chance to interact.
*Technology allows students to access updated
information faster than before.
*Technology allows students to access digital materials
and databases.
Digital literacy- As technologies are
increasingly used to store and convey
information, digital literacy, or skills in
using both technologies and the
information they carry, are viewed as
essential (Pierce,2013).

Digital citizenship- Schools are tasked

with teaching students how to use
technology resources in safe, responsible
and legal ways.
