Curriculum Guide)
Key Concepts /
The learner demonstrates understanding of key concepts of
Understandings to be
polynomials and polynomial equations.
Developed
Domain Objectives
Knowledge Define and describe polynomial.

Skills Identify the divisor, dividend, and quotient in each item.

Attitudes

Resources
4. Procedures
4 .1 Introductory Activity

Recall the following topics:

 Evaluation of algebraic expressions
 Operations involving algebraic expressions
 Exponents

4.2 Activity/Strategy
Discuss division of polynomials.
Long division
Discuss definition of a polynomial expression P(x). Refer to page 59 of the LM.
Ask the class to work in pairs in performing Activity 1: Spot the Difference. *
4.3 Analysis
Ask the students the following questions:
1. How was the activity?
2. What new thing did you learn from the activity?
3. How will you identify a polynomial?
4. Give some clue for you to identify a polynomial.
4.4 Abstraction
Let us now give the formal definition of polynomial through a power point presentation. The teacher
will then discuss the definition of polynomial expressions on page 57 of the Learner’s Material and
provide more examples. After this, let the students make a make their own examples of polynomial
expressions.

4.5 Application
Let the students answer Activity 9 #1&2 on page 18 of the Learner’s Material. Let them identify
whether the following sequences are arithmetic sequence.

1.6 Assessment
Assessment Method
D) Tests Let the students answer Activity 9 #3 – 5 on page 18
of the Learner’s Material.
1.7 Assignment
 Reinforcing / strengthening the day’s Let the students answer Activity 6 on page 14 of the
lesson Learner’s Material applying the rule of an arithmetic
sequence.
 Enriching / inspiring the day’s lesson
 Enhancing / improving the day’s lesson
 Preparing for the new lesson
