An ecosystem is a cycle where living and non living organisms work together to transfer energy to all

parts of the ecosystem. Each part of the ecosystem has a role, if one thing is removed, it can mess up the
whole ecosystem. Now let’s get deeper.

Lets use New Zealand as an example. Native species such as the Kiwi bird and the kauri trees are one of
the most important species in this ecosystem. The Kiwi bird helps with spreading seeds, and the Kauri
trees give a shelter to other plants and animals. Some things that might happen from new animals
joining an ecosystem is, Animals getting competitive, When a new organism joins a new ecosystem there
will be less food and resources so animals would fight over them. It can also lead to the extinction of
animals, for example if a new animal that feeds on bird eggs joined the ecosystem, it can stop birds from
hatching which can cause extinction.

So, as speak about New Zealand’s ecosystem, let’s remember we’re all part of this ecosystem. Taking care
of our planet is our job, just like how these creatures in New Zealand have their roles. By protecting our
ecosystems we will save lots of animals from their extinction and make a better environment for
everyone.
