ECOSYSTEM
Mangrove forest ecosystem

■ Mangrove Forest also known as mangal, is a unique type of ecosystem found in coastal
areas with tropical and subtropical climates.
■ Unlike traditional forest with arid landscape, the mangrove forest is characterized by an
abundance of water due to its proximity in ocean.
■ The dense network of mangrove roots acts as a natural barrier, protecting coastal areas
from erosion caused by waves and storms. They also filter pollutants and stabilize
sediments, contributing to water quality improvement.

■ Mangroves are highly efficient at sequestering carbon dioxide, making them important
in combating climate change. They can capture up to four times more carbon per area
than other types of forests.
■ Unfortunately, the mangrove desert is facing significant threats from human activities
such as deforestation, urban development, pollution, and climate change. Conservation
efforts are crucial in order to protect this fragile ecosystem and the many benefits it
provides
