Mangrove Forests
Mangrove forests are
ecosystems found in coastal
regions and are made up of
trees and shrubs that can
survive in saltwater and are
adapted to the unique
conditions of the intertidal zone
such as high salinity, high
temperatures, constant sun
exposure, and regular flooding.
Importance of mangrove
They are the buffer zone between the land and sea.
Mangrove protects the soil from erosion
They are a breeding and nursery ground for a variety of marine animal.
Where are they found?
Mangrove forests are found in
many coastal regions throughout
the world, mainly in tropical and
countries such as Brazil,
Indonesia, and Australia, as well
as in countries in the Americas
and Africa
The benefits of Mangroves
They prevent erosion and absorbing the effects of storm surge during
major weather events like hurricanes.
Their extensive roots aid in tying and forming soils.
Their above-ground roots increase sedimentation and reduced water
flow.
Water quality flowing from rivers and streams into the estuary and
ocean environment.
The state of mangrove forests as of now
The state of mangrove forests is
mixed, with some thriving and
others under threat from factors
such as coastal development,
climate change, and
overexploitation.
Efforts are underway to protect
and restore them, but not
enough.
Why mangroves need to be preserved

They provide an organic coastal

defense.
They are sinks for carbon.
They offer employment
They have a wide variety of
endangered species.
