Rapid Fire Oral

Blending
Instructions: Play the game as a rapid fire, where the child has to say the word
from the picture, segment the individual sounds of it and then blend those
sounds together to say the word. Keep the stop watch for 1 minute and
challenge the child to do maximum oral blending of these pictures. Keep a
record of each round and encourage them to orally segment & blend more
pictures in each round they play.
Example:
Step 1: The child will recognize the 1st picture and say /doll/.
Step 2: The child will then segment individual sounds as doooooolllll (/d/ /o/ /l/).
Encourage the child to elongate or stretch the vowel sounds, so that they
segment and blend the sounds without any pauses or disconnection between
the sounds.
Step 3: The child will blend these sounds together and say /doll/.
Step 4: Repeat Step 1 to 3 for each picture.

Please Note: The child is not to read any words from its spelling. The objective
is for them to develop phoneme blending and phoneme segmentation (ORALLY)
from this activity and also improve their speed in doing so. The answer to each
picture is given at the bottom of the page for the parent’s reference and are not
to be read by the child. In case the child is unable to recognize any picture, you
can say the answer right away to them, which is completely fine.
