Title: Earthquake Detector Alarm

Objective:

The objective of this project is to create a simple earthquake detector alarm using easily available materials and
understand the basic principles of detecting vibrations and converting them into an audible alarm.

Materials Required:

 9V battery
 9V battery clip connector
 On/off switch
 Cardboard
 Copper wire
 Buzzer
 Safety pin
 Insulating tape
 Glue

Procedure:

Step 1: Preparation
1. Gather all the required materials.
2. Ensure a safe working environment.
Step 2: Constructing the Detector
1. Cut the cardboard into a small square or rectangular base to serve as the platform for your detector.
2. Attach the 9V battery clip connector to the cardboard base using glue.
3. Connect the on/off switch to the battery clip connector. Make sure it can easily turn the circuit on and off.
4. Take the copper wire and wind it around the cardboard base, creating a coil. Leave enough wire at the ends to
connect to the buzzer.
5. Connect one end of the copper wire to the positive terminal of the battery clip connector and the other end to
the buzzer.
6. Connect the negative terminal of the buzzer to the negative terminal of the battery clip connector.
7. Securely attach the safety pin to the cardboard base using glue. Ensure it's positioned in a way that allows it to
move freely but won't fall off.
Step 3: Testing the Detector
1. Turn on the switch. The buzzer should remain silent.
2. Gently tap or shake the cardboard base. Observe if the safety pin moves or vibrates. The movement of the
safety pin indicates the detection of vibrations.
3. Once vibrations are detected, the safety pin completes the circuit, allowing the buzzer to sound an alarm.

Explanation:

 The principle behind this earthquake detector alarm is based on the detection of vibrations. When an
earthquake or any significant vibration occurs, the cardboard base moves, causing the safety pin to vibrate.
 As the safety pin moves, it completes the circuit between the copper wire coil and the buzzer, allowing
electricity to flow and activating the buzzer, which produces sound.

Conclusion:
This project demonstrates a basic yet effective way to create an earthquake detector alarm using simple
materials. Understanding how vibrations can be detected and converted into an audible alarm is essential for
various applications in detecting seismic activities.

Safety Precautions:

 Handle the materials carefully to prevent injuries.

 Avoid short circuits by properly insulating the connections using insulating tape.
 Keep the workspace organized and clean to prevent accidents.
