CHAPTER III

METHODS OF RESEARCH AND PROCEDURE

Research Methodology

The study was conducted in experimental form. The researchers created

a solar power using the following components: ordinary mirror and copper

wire. They will conduct an experiment to prove the adequacy of ordinary mirror

and copper wire as an alternative to electrical energy by using diode.

The researchers used split block design to have a variation of size. They

have two components method for ordinary mirror and copper wire and used

quantitative method for the reason that they can conduct a survey to their

respondent. They used an trichotomies questionnaire to determine if allowing

respondents to the opportunity to vote in favor of a project at an amount less

than their bid affects estimated willingness to pay.

Data Gathering Instruments

Zener diodes. This was utilized as a silicon semi-conductor that allows

current to flow in both directions either forward or reverse.

Concrete Cement. It was utilize to connect the mirror and copper wires. Light

bulb. This was use as an alternative light source.

Cardboard box. It will serve as an isolator, so that the copper wire and zener

diode could absorb more of the trap light and heat inside.
Analog multimeter. It was used to check if all of the samples had an

alternating electrical current.

Copper wire. It was used to transfer electrical energy.

Mirror. This will utilize since it has specular reflection, which preserves

many or most of the physical features of the original light.

Pliers. This was use to cut the copper wire.

Soldering iron. It will use heat to allow solder to flow into the joint between

two work pieces. LED diode. This will utilize as a light source's semi-

conductor, which emitted light when current passed through it.

Data Gathering Process

Ranging from 4-5 zener diodes

Step 1: First, the researchers will gather all the materials and equipment
needed to manufacture the product.

Step 2: Take the first end of the copper wire and scrape it with at least a
centimeter in length until most of the color is gone, then do the same with the
opposite end of the copper wire, creating at least five 7-8 centimeters.

Step 3: Plan carefully where the copper wire will be placed along the mirror
before sealing it with adhesive.

Step 4: After placing the copper wire in its designated place, carefully put
adhesives on each end part of the wire, and wait for it to dry.

Step 5: After it dried, calculate the length of the diode until it reaches the
appropriate length wherein the two ends of the wire will meet. Cut it shorter if
necessary. Then, abrade both ends of the diode carefully.
Step 6: To increase the strength, add a small dot of adhesive where the copper
wire and the diodes intersect and wait for it to harden.

Step 7: Then, insert the soldering iron, and place the solder wire directly on
side of the diodes to secure everything.

Step 8: On the remaining two ends of the copper wire, put the LED diode on
each end, then discreetly attach it to the bond.

Step 9: Wait for everything to dry, it is ideal to place the product outside
during the afternoon where it can receive direct sunlight since the sun is at its
very peak.

Ranging from 30 zener diodes

Step 1: The researchers will collect all of the materials required to make the
product.

Step 2: Scrape the copper wire starting at the end to remove the majority of
the color.

Step 3: Before using glue, carefully map out the desired location along the
mirror.

Step 4: Place the adhesive on each indirect side of the copper wire with
tweezers and wait for it to dry.

Step 5: To increase the strength, make a small dot with an adhesive where the
copper wire and the diodes meet and wait for it to dry.

Step 6: After that, connect everything by plugging in the soldering iron and
placing the soldering paste directly on the diodes.

Step 7: Wait for everything to dry before placing the product in direct sunlight
during the afternoon when the sun is at its brightest.
Sampling Design

In here, the lay out of the plan on how the researcher will produce the

product, each are divided by table and columns.

Table I

Object Length of the Zener Diodes Size of the Mirror

Copper Wire

a. 5mm LED diode a. 27 cm in length a. 4 pcs 1v a. 11.8 cm

b. 5mm LED diode b. 20 cm in length b. 4 pcs 8v b. 11.8 cm

c. 5mm LED diode c. 15 cm in length c. 30 pcs 1v c. 11.8 cm

There are total of three samples made, the size of the mirror remained constant

while the length of the copper wire has a different in terms of length because the both

ends of the copper wire needed to be in the right size to be able to wrap around the

test probe. While the diodes use are arranging from the 1 volt to 8 volts with the

quantity of 4 diodes to 30 diodes in total.
