How to French Braid Hair

The instructions below explain how to French braid hair in a simple seven-step
process. The following step-by-step instructions are for two braids on one head. If
only doing one braid start at step 2 and proceed with the following steps accordingly.

Step 1: Comb through hair until there are no knots and part hair into
equal right and left sections.

Step 2: Start on either side and gather three separate sections of hair,
placing them in between your fingers.
1. Tip: Starting the braid with a tight grip close to the scalp will
allow the braid to be loose and fall apart.

Step 3: Take the left section of the hair and cross it over the middle
section.

Step 4: Take the right section of the hair and cross it over the middle
section.
Step 5: Once you have crossed both sides over the middle strand, repeat
steps three and four but this time add more hair to each section as you
cross over the middle strand.

Step 6: After adding the last pieces of hair you will continue braiding
the rest of the hair until you reach a stopping point.
1. Tip: For a tighter braid keep your hands closer to the actual
braid. For a loose braid you can keep your hands farther away
towards the end of the hair.

Step 7: To secure the braid you can use either a hair tie or a rubber band.
