from source to destination.

IP: Internet Protocol
Apple Talk
IPX: Internet Packet Exchange
What is IP?
IP is a routed protocol that distributed the data
in a network from source to destination.
Routing: Selection of best path to reach the
destination from source.
There are two methods of routing:
Static Routing: Selection of best path by network
Admin.
Dynamic Routing: Selection of best path by
routing protocols.
Routing Protocols:
---------------
RIP: Routing Information Protocol
IS-IS: Intermediate System-Intermediate System
OSPF: Open Shortest Path First
EIGRP: Enhanced Interior Gateway Routing Protocol
BGP: Border Gateway Protocol
Routing Protocol selects the best path.
Router is a network layer device.
Data Link Layer:
---------------------
Switch is a data link layer device.
Ethernet Switch: ESW
MAC Address: Media Access Control Address
Protocols for the physical type of the medium/media/
channel/link belong to data link layer.
Wi-Fi---> IEEE ---> WLAN --->802.11
BT----> IEEE ----> WPAN---> 802.15
Ethernet --- IEEE ---- LAN --- 802.3
Physical: All devices without any kind of software
belong to physical layer.
All types of cables and connectors belong to physical
layer.
HUB is a physical layer device.
