Nosedives

I was kind of surprised at Nosedives but also found it humorous. There were some

moments in it that I found really funny, like the creativity of the insults at the end of the

episode. The significant part of that moment was the fact that Lacie finally had the freedom to

be able to say things like that. It wasn’t Lacie’s fault that she had to act a different way. She only

was the way she was during the episode because of the stupid rating system that she was

subjected to.

There are multiple reasons as to why I would not use the app. First, I do not use any

form of social media, and this app is the most social media out of all of them. The 5-star system

is broken. Stars 2, 3, and 4 are almost never used. Either something is good and gets 5 stars, or

one tiny mistake gets a 1-star rating. The system causes everyone to be completely fake with

each other. Everyone is hiding what they want to do or say so that others can give them a good

rating. People are too quick to rate. Some people will rate another person 1-star without having

enough time to know if the 1-star was deserved or what the person has been going through. It

isn’t fair to judge a person just because of the rating that they have. Just because a person

might have a 3-star rating does not mean that they are a bad person. Maybe they could have

received a lot of bad ratings from people out of spite, or the person could have been on one

side of an argument, and everyone was on the other side. The star system is not an accurate
way to know how good a person is. What’s crazy is that even if we don’t realize it, we already

have a society that is like the one in Nosedives. Instead of a rating system, we focus a lot on

social media with likes and followers.
