INTRODUCTION

The official stated purpose of Facebook is to make the world more

connected. Facebook's latest mission statement is that people use
Facebook to stay connected with friends and family, discover what's
going on in the world and share and express what matters to them. It
is also one of the greatest platforms available to share your ideas,
and to show your personality.

In this survey we polled 100 Facebook friends to learn

about the ways they are using Facebook.

This is intended as a sampling of 100 Facebook users to see how

they:

1. Baseline information on the participants

2. Trends in general usage patterns
3. General information on how they use Facebook
4. Graph Search awareness and usage
5. Their bio and how they represent themselves in this platform
6. Set their status

The above chart represents data categorizing status of different

people using Facebook. Response category and total number of
people showing that response is shown in the diagram.
Almost one third of people claim to have nothing much going on their
lives while 7% of them are giving too much information. Surprisingly,
very few people posted rude and embarrassing content. Some of
them seem to have privacy concerns and have not shown a lot of
information on their profile. Few of those people seen to live for the
drama love getting attention. Around 6 people have gone through
awful break ups and are down.
From the above diagram, we can conclude that most of the people
don’t like revealing their personal life and have privacy concerns
which I believe is a good thing. While there are few, posting rude and
uncivil content on these media needs to be stopped.

The above bar graph represents how people claim to spend their
time on facebook on a specific weekend.
F is a family person; he likes to go out and spend time with his family.
He also is a food lover so he uploaded all the dishes he had for
dinner along with their names. He likes to document food on his
social media for others to see. G is a music enthusiast. She keeps
posting about new playlists or songs that she comes across and likes
for other people to also listen to them. She likes to share her music
taste with others in wonder that maybe there will be others who also
have the same music preference as him. H is a school student who is
bored and stressed with his ongoing exams. So, he is sharing his
sorrow and frustration with other people on social media in hopes
that his classmates or other batch mates might share his feelings
since they are also in a similar situation. ‘I’ is always out with his
friends. He is an extrovert and easy-going person who always has
some plan prepared for every day. He likes watching movies in the
theatre so he is out to watch a newly released movie with his friends.
J is an introvert. He is a calm and quiet person who likes to spend
time alone. He likes to have tea while appreciating nature. The sight
of the sunset pleases him so much that he wants to share it with
other people on social media who would appreciate the aesthetics.
From this information, we can gather that these people love to spend
some quality time in their weekends

The above chart shows the caption of different posts they recently
updated on Facebook. This provides information on 100 people.
12 of them seem to have nothing going on their life while quarter of
them seem to meet new people and socialize with different
individuals. Almost one third of them are reconnecting and staying
connected with their old life and friends. Few of them are applying for
jobs and seeking employments
These posts seem to be happy and refreshing than the ones we saw
before. We can see people reconnecting with their old friends while
welcoming new people in their lives. Some are trying to gain financial
stability while a number of them seem to be satisfied with the new
turn of events in their lives.

11
CONCLUSION

Facebook, arguably the most famous social networking site, comes

with its own pros and cons.
As seen in this project; there are people who use Facebook for
the original cause it was meant for, to connect with people. We have
old friends staying in different parts of the country or even across the
globe. The existence of a platform like Facebook has helped billions
of people to get in touch with their family and friends.

Some use it for the sake of entertainment while a number of them

just love to post nothing. We don’t pretend that this represents the
entire population, and it certainly does not represent the largest
user profiles on Facebook or any business pages but it certainly
does provide few information on how people choose to spend their
hours on this social media platform.
