Modular Distance Learning – Activity

December 7, 2023

Direction: Read the disarranged research methodology article below. Identify and rewrite the
correct research methodology by completing the table on the last part of the activity. Write your
answer on a 1 whole sheet of paper.

In the selection of the respondents either the control or experimental group, the respondents
will be matched according to their average grade Science (Grade 10 JHS). The assigning of group
will be done through a fishbowl technique.

Table 1. Grouping of Learners according to their previous grade in Physical Science

Levels of Performance Experimental Group Control Group
Outstanding 5 5
Very Satisfactory 10 10
Satisfactory 15 15
Fairly Satisfactory 5 5
TOTAL 35 35

The study will be administered for the first semester, school year 2020-2021. A pretest will
be given to both groups before implementing the experiment. The researchers will have to develop
first the NTLP (Newspaper Type Learning Package based on the MELC of the subject. It will undergo
validation to be validated by experts in the field of science. Considering the time frame, it would
depend on the chosen MELC of Earth anf Life science.

The two main compositions of the NLTP will be the different content/lesson based on the
MELC. In this section, the readability index will also be taken using the gunning fog index to
determine the appropriateness of the reading material. Another is the learning map which are
activities that will undergo validation from the expert in the field of science. Other composition like
the reflection part of the NTLP will be evaluated through a rubric as one way of evaluating their
learning progress.

On the other hand, the test instrument used will be crafted by the researchers as the main
gathering instrument to assess whether there is an increase performance of the learners exposed to
the strategy. The test instrument will undergo validity and reliability to secure an acceptable result
of the experiment. The test instrument is a multiple -choice type of test consisting of 50 items
constructed based on table of specifications.

The experimental group will be treated using the introduced strategy while the control group
will undergo using a modular approach in learning the lesson.

In this study, the researchers will be using the pretest-posttest control group design.
According to Reid (2013), the pretest-posttest group design randomly assigns participants to a
treatment group or a control group. A pretest will be administered to the treatment and control
group, administer posttest to the group and assess the differences between the groups. The
treatment is provided only to the experimental group.
The participants of the study are the Grade 11 Senior High School learners from the
Academic Track. There are 3 (three) Academic strands being offered in the school namely Science,
Technology, Engineering, Mathematics (STEM), Accountancy, Business and Management (ABM) and
Humanities and Social Sciences. The selection who will be the control group and the experimental
group will be done using fishbowl method. The control group will be utilizing the modules given by
the DepEd while the experimental group will be using the NTLP based on the MELC of the subject.

To determine the performance of the respondents in the pretest-posttest of both groups, the
mean score will be converted to mean percent core. The mean percent score will be categorized into
seven scales following the norms prescribed by the Department of Education National Education
Testing Research Center as shown below:

Mean Percentage Score Descriptive Equivalent 96%-100% Proficient

86%-95% Closely Approximating Proficiency
66%-85% Moving Towards Proficiency
35%-65% Average Proficiency
15%-34% Low Proficiency
5%-14% Very Low Proficiency
0%-4% Absolutely no Proficiency

To determine the reliability of the test instruments, Cronbach Alpha will be used. To
determine the significant difference between the performances of both groups in the pretest-
posttest, the paired t-test will be used. The independent t-test will be utilized to identify if there is a
significant difference between the performance of the control and experimental group in the
posttest. All the result of the data analysis will be treated using SPSS with 0.05 level of significance.
