Garlic and Its Benefits

Garlic (Allium sativum), is used widely as a flavouring in cooking, but

it has also been used as a medicine throughout ancient and modern history; it
has been taken to prevent and treat a wide range of conditions and diseases. It
has been used by humans for thousands of years and was used in Ancient
Egypt for both cooking purposes and healing benefits. Garlic has been used
all over the world for thousands of years. Records indicate that garlic was
first used when the Giza pyramids were built 5,000 years ago.
Garlic has been used for a wide range of conditions and illnesses. It is
usually used for treating breathing problems, parasites, poor digestion,
and tiredness. Throughout history in the Middle East, garlic has been used to
treat a number of illnesses like high blood pressure, diabetes, and fevers.
One way to have garlic is to eat it raw. Include at least one serving—or
a ½ clove—in your meal plan every day. Many people like to cook garlic in
their dishes, but raw garlic is just as tasty. Having a mixture of raw and
cooked garlic is the best way to get the health benefits of this vegetable.
Crushing, chopping, or mincing garlic can best release the compounds that
benefit for your health. Eating raw garlic can also have additional benefits.
This includes relaxing smooth muscles in your blood vessels, which in turn
expands them and may lower blood pressure. Some ways to enjoy raw garlic
are like mixing chopped garlic with fresh tomatoes and basil or simply
spreading the crushed garlic on toast and topping it with a slice of tomato.

Part 4
Read the diary entry and answer questions 25 to 34.

15th April 2019

Today is my birthday. I am officially 15 years old. Yay! The birthday

presents were the best part of the day.

Mum and Dad gave me RM100.00. As usual they advised me to deposit it

in my savings account. Grandpa and Grandma sent me a T-shirt with a matching
cap. Pretty cool, I can live with all the pink hearts, I guess.

Aiman got me a new phone case. That was a surprise. He always bought
me the usual chocolate bar as he constantly had the same excuse, he is broke! I
really like the case as it glows in the dark. So, you don’t need to switch on the
lights to find your phone and we can save the electricity. Aiman always knew that I
keep on misplacing things.

Song and Ina, my best friends, bought me a diary. That will come in useful
soon. Anyway, there’s not much space left in this one.

Aunt Aminah, gave me a branded lipstick. Must be quite expensive. She

may be Mum’s best friend but she doesn’t realise how Mum dislikes a 15-year-old
girl wearing make-up. So, I am thinking to give it to my eldest sister.

My favourite present is the set of six corner bookmarks that Devi made
herself. To make the bookmark, she learnt from a video. I think they are extra
special because my dear friend took the time to make them for me. Devi is not
crazy of arts and crafts, so I really appreciate her effort. The bookmarks are funny-
looking and well made. I will use them to mark pages of homework from textbooks.

It has been a great day. I feel so loved, thanks to my beloved family and
friends.

Among the many interesting creatures on our planet, one of the most unique animals is the

they melt into the leaves and become one with 36 them.
Coupled with the fact that glass frogs are 20 to 30 millimetres in length
and could stay quietly at your fingertip, they are impossible to 37 be spotted
by predators.
Glass frogs live in and among trees and plants of the moist mountain forests in Central
and South 38 America. While most of their lives are spent up on
trees, they breed closer to rivers.
The parents will stay to guard the eggs however as there is still the risk of them
being eaten by maggots and larvae of 39 wasps. They fall into the water below
after few months and the parents return to the trees. Scientists are interested in the frogs as
they give clues on the health of the environment.
