"Capturing Life's Essence Through Photography: The Journey of Lincoln University

Graduate, Malachi Sommerville"

By Miracle Gabriels

In a world where not, everyone finds their true passion, Malachi Sommerville, a former Howard
University student turned Lincoln University graduate, has discovered his calling in the art of
photography. With an unwavering commitment to making people feel like superstars and
showcasing their innate beauty, Malachi has established himself as a gifted photographer.
The roots of his photographic journey can be traced back to his grandfather, who practiced
photography during a time when it couldn't be a full-time pursuit. Honoring his grandfather's
legacy became a driving force for Malachi, leading him to dive headfirst into the world of
photography. With every photoshoot he undertook, he experienced substantial growth and
received continuous admiration from those who witnessed his work. This positive feedback
fueled his determination, prompting him to ask himself, "So why stop?"
Malachi's path to photography excellence was far from a walk in the park. He openly
acknowledges that his journey was anything but easy, often grappling with the challenge of
turning his creative visions into reality. Nevertheless, he realized that mastering the art of
photography was about dedication and continuous learning.
Initially, becoming a full-time entrepreneur and photographer wasn't a long-standing dream for
Malachi. He started his professional journey as a communications coordinator for the city of
Philadelphia, where he channeled his photographic talents into serving the visions of politicians
and their businesses. However, it didn't take long for him to realize his growing preference for
client photoshoots over the routine of his nine-to-five job. The allure of creative control and the
opportunity to infuse his personal passion into his work became increasingly irresistible. In his
words, "People hire you because of your gifts, but they were using my gifts for visions that didn't
resonate with me personally." While the city of Philadelphia put his talents to good use, Malachi
felt that they didn't fully appreciate his unique gifts in the way he envisioned.

In addition to his roles as a photographer and entrepreneur, Malachi is concurrently a college

student. Malachi started at Florida A&M University in 2018 pursuing TV and film, he took a gap
year in 2020 to reassess his path before deciding to attend Howard University in 2021-2022.
Unfortunately, during his junior year at Howard, Malachi endured a car accident leading to a
concussion and subsequent withdrawal from the university. Undeterred, he returned to Lincoln
University in 2023 and is steadfast in his goal to graduate with a bachelor's degree in 2024.
Today, Malachi is a dedicated, full-time photographer, dedicating his days to empowering his
business, expanding his clientele, and perfecting his craft. Photography, however, is not his sole
passion. He also explores other areas of interest, including music and filmmaking. His ambitions
extend beyond photography, as he envisions branching out into new creative endeavors and
continues to embrace the world of art and expression.
Malachi Sommerville's journey is a testament to the transformative power of pursuing one's true
passion. Through dedication and a deep commitment to his craft, he has carved a niche for
himself in the world of photography, touching the lives of countless individuals and leaving a
lasting impact through his lens.
