1. This examination has 2 sections:


Section A: 20 marks
Section B: 30 marks

2. Section A is compulsory
3. Section B: Answer any 3 questions
4. Answer each question in Section B on a new page.
5. This examination is worth 50% of your overall mark.
The minimum examination pass mark is 25/50.
SECTION A: SHORT ANSWERS [20 MARKS]

There are 2 parts to this Section. Both parts are compulsory.

Part A (10 marks)

1. Andragogy is the opposite of pedagogy. Discuss THREE differences between the two
terms as used in education.

Part B (10 marks)

1. Discuss FIVE of the following terms in relation to the study of adult learners. Your
discussion for each term should not exceed 150 words.

a) self-directed learning
b) cognitive strategies
c) Auditory learners
d) Non-formal education
e) psychosocial perspective
f) positive social style
g) social learning theory
h) self-awareness
i) interpersonal skills

SECTION B: ESSAYS (30 MARK)

Write an essay on any THREE of the following questions. Each essay should be
between 800 – 1000 words in length.

Each essay is worth 10 marks.

“The use of ICTs represented a major motivation for participants since it


incentivized learners to enrol in the programme and continue attending the
classes until its completion

Discuss how ICT is a great motivator for adult students.

“Aging does affect learning. Adults tend to learn less rapidly with age. However,
the depth of learning tends to increase over time, navigating knowledge and
skills to unprecedented personal levels”.

Critically examine the above statement in relation to theories learnt about adult
learners. Give examples.

3. Discuss how adult learners can maximize learning opportunities from an
approach that integrates formal and nonformal learning strategies in their
programmes. Use relevant examples to support your answer.

“The more effort you put into your self-evaluation, the more you will get out of
the entire performance appraisal process”

Discuss the above statement in relation to being a successful adult learner.

5. Discuss the heutagogical approach and how it helps in adult learning. Give
examples from your context to support your answer.

6. There are four basic approaches in thinking about how to integrate technology
into adult learning. One of them is technology as curriculum. Discuss three
benefits and three limitations of this approach. Give examples to support your
answer.
