INTRODUCTION

Hi guys! To preface this, a lot of people were asking about the spreadsheet I use to track my reading. While I have customized this to my needs quite a bit, and used a lot of my own formatting, the core
skeleton of this spreadsheet was originally created using spreadsheets from G (@BookRoast), Ali (@The Hardback Hoarder), and Gavin (@How to Train Your Gavin). The links to the spreadsheets I

First, I highly suggest you make sure to read my instructions here before using the rest of the tracker, as I have a lot of the cells protected that shouldn't be messed with, but accidents do happen!
Secondly, and equally important, PLEASE do not try to edit this master tracker. Some of the formulas were REALLY complicated, and I know several people have tried to edit this already to use it as
their tracker. That won't work, and I won't approve any editing requests when that happens. Make sure to go to the top of the screen, click FILE, and select MAKE A COPY, so that a copy for your use
will be downloaded into whichever Google Sheets account you were using at the time.
Finally, please DON'T contact me with questions on how to do certain things in Google Sheets. I learned most of the things I added to this by using Google, so it's not very hard to learn! But PLEASE
send me an email or DM or whatever to let me know if something in the Master Tracker isn't working, so that I can fix it quickly!

ALSO, if you're interested, I have an updated version of this spreadsheet that I've added several new features to (tracking reading the same book in multiple different formats and from different sources,
a "Borrowed Books" tab that tracks all the books you've borrowed from various sources, and the addition of a couple ease-of-use things that will automatically populate to fields on different sheets).

START HERE: 1. ESCAPES TAB

----FIRST: Any tab that is formatted with a THICK GRAY BORDER should not be edited. This is a cell that contains a formula that calculated the rest of the sheet, so mess with it at your own risk.

--The first tab you're going to see, and probably the one you're going to use most heavily, is the "ESCAPES" tab. This tab is where you will log all of your books throughout the year. In it, you will need to type in the
title, month you are reading it in (this is important so that this books stats will be moved to the correct month in your "Monthly Reading Stats" tab), the author, whether or not it is a re-read, and the date you started
reading it (this can be done by double clicking on the cell to bring up a calendar, and selecting a date from there).

--The days to read will AUTOMATICALLY calculate for you, and this field doesn't need to be changed or it will mess up the formula. The ESCAPES fields are for your rating. You only need to plug in numbers 1-10
(explanation for how I divide these ratings on the final tab if you need examples) to rate each of the categories in ESCAPES. The "Rating" and "Stars" fields calculate a star rating automatically based on what you have
rated each category in ESCAPES.

--The "Genre" ,"Age Range", and "Format" fields are drop-down menus. I've tried to include as much as I could, but if you need something added, you just have to change the data validation of that column (Googling
this is extremely easy!). Just remember that changing the drop down menu could mess up some of the categories already being used on the stats sheets later on.

--I'll skip over pages and publication year, since they should be self-explanatory. The "Type" column tracks whether or not that book is in a series, a standalone, or a re-read, and the "Acquired" column just keeps track
of where you got that particular book from.

--You can select a type of representation from the "Rep?" column, and use the "Type:" column next to it to expand on how it showed representation or, if there were multiple kinds, what they were. Finally, the last few
columns pertain to the author. The author/s' gender, or genders, can be tracked here and whether or not they are POC, and their race can be typed into the "If Yes:" column.

--One last important note for this sheet: some columns are hidden. this is to calculate things behind the scenes so the whole spreadsheet works seamlessly. I highly suggest not changing anything in them or the formulas
will likely not work. If any of the columns are something you don't need, feel free to hide them by right-clicking on the column and selecting hide, because if they are directly deleted it could mess up some formulas on
the statistics sheets.

2. YEARLY BOOKISH STATS 3. MONTHLY STATS

--Next up is the "Yearly Bookish Stats" tab!
--So each of these should easily explain themselves. Almost all of these categories
are populated from the other sheets, so once again, this entire sheet is entirely
hands-off unless there is something included you don't care about and want to
delete or something I don't have it tracking and you want to add. Feel free to do
either of those things! The exception to the "hands-off" rule is the section for
"Favorite Books By Month", because that is where you can type in what your
favorite books each month have been! This is something that Ali over at The
Hardback Hoarder included in her yearly tracker and I LOVED IT. It made
choosing my top books of the year so much easier when the time came.
--Other than deleting stuff you don't care about (or adding more) there should be
no need to change anything at all on this entire sheet! Every single category is
automatically calculated for you. There are no blank fields on this sheet for you to
input any data (except for the one I talked about above), as the entire sheet is
pulled from all of the other tabs you have been filling in.
--This tab is also COMPLETELY hands-off. Everything on this sheet is
automatically calculated based off of what you have added to the other tabs.
--IF you delete certain fields, things on this sheet might not calculate correctly. I'm
not going to tell you how to live your life, so if you want to delete stuff you're not
using instead of hiding it, go for it, but I would also hide or delete the
corresponding row in this sheet so that you don't have to look at it here, otherwise
it will remain a useless "0" or "N/A" kind of cell for your entire year.
--Some housekeeping stuff: Every formula cell on this sheet is only set to count that
book in these totals if the MONTH from the "ESCAPES" sheet matches the
MONTH column you are currently in. If you haven't selected a month on that
sheet, it will not appear here.

4. SERIES TRACKER 5. ARC TRACKER TAB

--The fourth tab is the Series Tracker! The bare bones of this was stolen from Gavin's series tracker,
but the formatting is a color coding system that I came up with so that it is all done automatically. --Next, the ARC tracker. This is, of course, mostly only useful if you receive and review
You don't have to select cells to change their color to visualize how many books in the series you ARCs. If you don't, this sheet can be hidden by right-clicking on it and selecting "Hide". If
have yet to read, etc. you plan to use it, keep reading.

--So, instructions! The columns tend to explain themselves. Fill in the name of the series, the author, --I created this tracker and its formatting mostly from scratch. It's fairly simple to use. You
how many books in the series you have read, how many books are currently out in the series or, if just need to add the date the ARC is coming out (you do this by double clicking on that cell

--Remember, the cell will ONLY turn green once you put your rating into that cell. This is how the
"AVG" column is calculated.
--Don't forget to use the "Up to Date" column and check off the box if you get caught up to the most
recent book in that series!
--Once you've added your series in, you might want to sort them into an order that makes it easier to

--Once you've added your series in, you might want to sort them into an order that makes it easier to
find. I found it easiest to sort my series first by whether or not I'm up to date, and then by the
author's name. You can sort however you like! In order to do this, you will need to do the sorting
twice (I know, I know, that's tedious, but hopefully you won't need to be sorting your series so often
that this gets too annoying).
--To sort by whether or not you are up to date, make sure to select the whole table (**STARTING
WITH COLUMN B AND WITHOUT THE HEADERS SELECTED**) and make sure to highlight
all the way to the bottom right of all of your data. You now have a decision to make. If you would
like your UP-TO-DATE series to be at the top, you will then go to "Data" at the top of your screen,
select "Sort Range", and click on "Sort Range By Column B (Z to A)". If you want your
UNFINISHED series to be towards the top, you will then go to "Data" at the top of your screen,
select "Sort Range", and click on "Sort Range By Column B (A to Z)".
--The next column is where the magic happens, lol. When you select the ARC's status
(Requested, Denied, Approved), the entire row that book is in will change color so it's
status is color-coded for you to keep track of. If you selected "Requested" the whole row
will turn blue. If you select "Denied", the row will turn red and will get a strikethrough.

one of my ARCs so I knew what I needed to prioritize when I started reading them.
--The next few columns add a little more magic to the process. If you have both checked off
"Read" AND "Reviewed", a line will strikeout that entire row for you, so you know you've
completed your obligations for that ARC and can move on to the next. The same goes for
the "DNF" column. If you check "DNF", you know that you don't care about that ARC or
its status anymore, and the row will get a strikethrough.
--After you've gone through and added some books in, most likely you are not requesting
ARCs in perfect publication date order and you would like to sort them by release date.
The easiest way to do this is to highlight the whole table (**STARTING WITH COLUMN
B**), go to "Data" at the top of your screen, select "Sort Range", select "Advance Range
Sorting Options", make sure "Data has header row" is checked and "Column B" is the
chosen "sort by" column and then click "Sort". Everything should then sort so all of the
dates are in the correct order.

--Then, to sort by the author's name, keep in mind that it will sort based on the FIRST LETTER in
the cell. So if you type the author's name in like "Jane Doe", everything will be sorted by the author's
first name. If you type in "Doe, Jane" instead, it will sort by the author's last name. You will follow
the same procedure you did before, this time only selecting the section of checked boxes OR the
section of unchecked boxes (because they'll have to be sorted alphabetically separately). When the
section you want to sort is highlighed, you'll go to "Data" at the top of your screen, select "Sort
Range", select "Advance Range Sorting Options", make sure "Data has header row" is
UNCHECKED and "Column D" is the chosen "sort by" column and then click "Sort". That section
should be sorted alphabetically now, and all you have to do is repeat those steps for the remaining
section of series!

6. BOOKS BOUGHT/SOLD TAB

--The next tab you'll see is the "Books Bought/Sold" tab. This tab is meant to track the
books you've been buying and/or selling throughout the year. You just need to fill in the
blank fields. If you have read the book in that line, check off the "Read?" column, and it
will be counted on the stats sheets as a book you have bought and read that year.

--If you choose "Bought" or "Gifted" in the "Transaction Type" column, "N/A" will
automatically populate into the "Amount Sold For" and "Sold On" Colums. If you chose
"Sold", simply type the amount you sold the book, or books, for in that column and the
place in which you sold it goes into the "Sold On" column.

--This sheet does calculate some of its own stats by using the data you've typed into each
row. It will calculate in total how much you spent on books that year, how many books you
bought, how many of those books you've read, how much money you've earned by selling
books (and how many books you sold), and what your total amount of money spent on
books is minus the money you have earned by also selling books.

--The "Total Amount Saved" is how much money you have saved throughout the year by
buying discounted books.

--After you've gone through and added some of your books in, if for any reason things get
out of order and you want to sort them by month, so they're all clumped together, the
easiest way to do this is to highlight the whole table (**MAKE SURE TO INCLUDE
COLUMN A**), go to "Data" at the top of your screen, select "Sort Range", select "Advance
Range Sorting Options", make sure "Data has header row" is checked and "Column A" is
the chosen "sort by" column and then click "Sort". Everything should then sort so all of the
months are grouped together.

Did the book hook you from the beginning? Was the start a bit of a drag/boring/hard to get into? Did you have to push yourself to keep going?
Are the characters well fleshed out? Do they have a backstory/fears/hopes/beliefs? Do they stick to them, or do things out of character? Were they just cardboard
cutouts to move the plot along as needed, or did they feel like real people performing real actions?
How is the setting? Is it detailed enough to feel immersed but not so full of descriptions that it gets bogged down? Is it original and imaginative (for fantasy) or a
carbon copy of everything else? Has work clearly been put into creating this world?
Does the plot make sense? Is it original, or is it repetitive of other works? Was it predictable or full of creative plot twists? Were there any glaring plot holes that
took away from the reading experience?
How does everything wrap up? Was it cut off or rushed? Were all the important plot points resolved? Includes the middle of the book, was your attention still
hooked or were you ready for it to be over?
Writing as a whole. Did everything flow, or did it feel clunky? Did word choices make sense? Does the plot structure make sense? Are the chapters too long or too
short? Was it too info-dumpy and full of exposition, or did the information given feel right? Did the pacing of the story make sense?
