Care and Maintenance
The intemal clearance of a tapered bore beating varies with
the lightness of the imesference It Its necessary to check
the clearance often as the bearing is being maunted
The bearing should be pressed until the reduction of radial
«learanceis within the range shown in Table (1) on page 18.
Radial internal clearance can be measured during mounting
using a feeler gauge or other appropiate gauges.
In this process, the clearances fr both rows of rollers must be
‘measured simultaneously and the two values kept roughly
the same by adjusting the relative position ofthe auter and
Inner rings, Ihis is shown in Fig. 1. the average ofthe two
‘measurements taken for bath rows may be used as the
fesidual internal clearance.

In large bearings, the auter ring may deform slightly into an
eliptcal shape due lo its own weight. In this case, for best,
results, measurements should be taken at locations a, b, and ¢
(Gee Fig 3) and entered into the folowing equation:
Radial Clearance = (a+b +0) /2
This method is used where the bearing i esting on its inner
ting adil clearance ¢ 2 bottom). When aselfaligning ball
bearing is mounted an 2 shatt adapt sufficient clearance for
‘easy alignment of the outer rng must be allowed.
