Dimensioning in AutoCAD refers to the process of adding

measurement and annotation to a drawing to convey the accurate
shape, size and position of object accurately.

AutoCAD provides a set of tools and commands specifically designed

for creating and managing dimension within drawings.

Dimensioning allows engineers, architects to provide necessary

information for different objects.

1. Linear Dimensions:
• Represent the distance between two points in a
straight line. Common linear dimensions include
horizontal, vertical, and aligned dimensions.

2. Angular Dimensions:
• Measure the angle formed by two lines or
edges. Angular dimensions are used to specify
the orientation of objects

3. Radial Dimensions:
• Measure the radius of a circle or the distance
from the centre of an arc to its circumference.

4. Diameter Dimensions:
• Indicate the diameter of a circle or the
distance across the widest point of a
cylindrical or round object.

• Insertion Scale: Define the scale for inserted blocks.
• Angle: Set the unit type for angles (e.g., Decimal
Degrees, Degrees/Minutes/Seconds).
• Specify the precision for measurements. This determines
the number of decimal places displayed in your
dimensions.
