Campervan Back Screen

Discussion Guide

Research Objectives

• Validate designs for a touchscreen system that can be used to control devices and appliances in
campervans and motorhomes.
• Understand what information and settings customers would like to see on the “Dashboard” screen.
• Get feedback on the user interface of individual sections within the system.

Context of Use (10 min)

About you

• What do you do for a living?

• What do you like to do in your spare time?

Your campervan

• Could you tell me a bit more about your campervan?

• What’s the make and model?
• Did you buy it as a campervan or converted it?
• Why did you choose this campervan?
• How long have you had it for?
• What type of trips do you usually do with it?
o Who do you usually bring with you?
• How often do you drive it?
• Did you customise it in any way?
• Do you use it for anything else apart from camping?
• What are the biggest issues when going on a trip with your campervan?
o What could make your experience better?
Your appliances and devices
• Does the campervan have an infotainment system?
o [If YES] What’s the size of the screen?
o What can you do with it?
• What devices and appliances are equipped on your campervan?
o Which of these do you use more often?
o How do you control these devices/appliances? (Ask about control panels, additional displays,
buttons, switches, phone apps…)
• Does the campervan come with any apps or services to manage the vehicle or control appliances?
o [If YES] Which of these features do you use?
• If you could equip your campervan with any type of appliance, gadget or electronic device, what would you
put in it? Why?

Prototype Evaluation (45 min)

Moderator: If available, show an image of the touchscreen control panel with the location of the display inside the
vehicle.

I’d like you to imagine that you just bought a new campervan and that it came equipped with a dedicated
touchscreen display to control devices and appliances. You are now seeing this for the first time and would like to
understand how it works. To guide the discussion, I’ve created a list of short scenarios for you.

Moderator:

• Launch the Figma prototype and give control to the participant.

• Ask participants to complete as many of the following tasks as possible, without assistance.
• After each Scenario, go back to the selection screen before starting the next one.
