Dear Parents

Here is the latest information regarding your child’s trip to Carroty Wood this year.

Attached to this letter you will find a list of items that your child will need to bring to Carroty
Wood. Please keep this list somewhere safe to help you (and your child) with their packing
later on. Please attach a list of what you have packed to the inside of your child’s holdall.

PLEASE ENSURE ALL YOUR CHILD’S ITEMS ARE CLEARLY NAMED

The swimming pool at Carroty Wood is heated and all children will swim while they are on
the trip. Please do not forget to pack their swimming things.

Children in Years 3 to 6 will take part in one or more Rock UK activity. For these activities
the children need to be dressed warmly with shoes that are not too slippery, e.g. trainers.

Also enclosed with this letter are a number of Carroty Wood information sheets, which you
must complete and return to your child’s class teacher by Monday, 21st March 2022.

Carroty Wood will become a much loved holiday centre for our children and the work that
they do in class next term will be based around this annual event. However if your child is ill
on the day of the trip, please contact the school to discuss the situation. If children are going
to Carroty Wood for 3 or more nights, it may be possible for us to bring them a day late so
that they do not miss the whole trip. In the case of sickness and/or diarrhoea, children must
be clear of symptoms for 48 hours before they can accompany their class on the trip.

NB: A place has now been reserved for your child and must be paid for in full (please
refer to the first letter sent to parents in July 2021)

If you have any questions, please see either your child’s class teacher or myself.

Yours sincerely,

Mrs Sally Eaton B.Ed. FRSA

Executive Head

INSURANCE
The school has its own public liability insurance which covers school trips. However, you
may wish to take out further cover that would compensate you in the eventuality that your
child falls sick with a minor illness before or during the trip and was not able to attend. Below
are the details of links to a couple websites that offer insurance to cover non-attendance on
a school trip.

1. https://www.moneysupermartket.com/travel-insurance/under-16s/
2. https://www.gocompare.com/travel-insurance/children/

Indeed, some of you may already have a family policy, which covers you and your children
via your credit card companies. It would be worth checking this with your credit card
provider. For those of you who do not already have this cover we would advise you to
consider taking out a policy.

ARRANGEMENTS ON THE DAY OF DEPARTURE

Bring your child to school as usual. Put their travel bags in the playground either side of the
front door or in the allocated zone and then leave the children to go to their classroom as
usual. We do not leave the school until later in the morning so the children will go into
assembly as normal.

IMPORTANT – We would ask that you leave when the children go into school.
Please do not wait to say goodbye as they leave the school on the coach. Children
are used to daily school trips and will take it in all in their stride. Tearful goodbyes
will get us off to a bad start and probably leave you worried too. 

The class teachers will bring the children downstairs to get onto the coach at the appropriate
time.

Don’t forget their packed lunch which they should bring in a labelled, disposable bag. They
will need this for when they arrive at Carroty Wood. Please do not pack it in their luggage.

Please give any medicine to the class teacher with a completed medical form available from
the school office. Please do not pack medicine in your child’s bag.

Office staff will be in school all week and will be able to let you know how things are going,
should you be worried. Please see the daily bulletins on the Laser.

We really do have a great time at Carroty Wood and it is the perfect place to put teamwork
into practice. Patience, tolerance and respect can also be learnt from living in such close
quarters with each other, but the biggest lesson learnt at Carroty Wood is independence, so
be prepared for them to come back wanting to do more for themselves!

We are going to have a great time! Thank you for letting your child come.
