 METHOD: The direct method (DM)
 TECHNIQUES:
 Reading aloud: Teachers use pictures and gestures, students
read words aloud.
 Dictation: Teachers read the words, students write down.
 Fill in the blank exercise: Students write the words to
complete the sentences.
2/ GRAMMAR
 METHOD: The Grammar Translation Method (GTM)
 TECHNIQUES:
 Translation of a literary passage: Teachers write a sentence
designed to include grammar rule and vocabulary.
 Memorization: Sts are given lists of pictures of vocabulary
words. Sts are required to memorize grammatical rules to
answer the questions.
 Fill in the blanks: Sts fill in the blanks with items of a
particular grammar type.
3/ PRONUNCIATION
 METHOD: ALM
 TECHNIQUES:
 Repetition Drill: Teachers pronounce the word and students
repeat many times
4/ LISTENING
 METHOD: ALM
 TECHNIQUES:
 Repetition Drill: Sts repeat the teacher’s model or recording
as accurately and as quickly as possible.
 Complete the dialog: Sts listen and comple the dialog by
filling the blanks with the missing words.
5/ SPEAKING
 METHOD: ALM
 TECHNIQUES:
 Chain drill: The teachers begin the chain by asking the
student a question, that student responds, then turns to the
student sitting next to him.
 Question-and-answer drill: The student should answer the
teacher’s questions very quickly.
6/ READING
 METHOD: GTM
 TECHNIQUES:
 Reading Comprehension Questions: Students read the
passage and choose the answer
 Question and answer exercise:Teacher asks questions and
students answer then students do matching exercises
7/ WRITING
 METHOD: GTM
 TECHNIQUES:
 Fill in the blank: Teacher introduces vocabularies, students
read the sentence and write the missing word
