Introduction to War and Peace


This unit will explore the concepts of war and peace in an in-depth manner. We will be looking
at how war affects people, nations, and the world in both positive and negative ways. We will
also be looking at the different ways in which peace can be achieved, both on a local and global
level.

This unit will look at war and peace from a variety of perspectives, including historical, political,
social, and economic. We will be studying texts from a variety of authors, including the writings
of Sun Tzu, Thomas Hobbes, and Immanuel Kant. We will also be looking at current events and
their effects on war and peace.

The goal of this unit is to provide students with a greater understanding of the complexities of
war and peace. We will be looking at the causes and effects of both, as well as the various
ways in which peace can be achieved. By the end of this unit, students should be able to think
critically and discuss the various issues surrounding war and peace in a meaningful way.

Texts that will be studied


Throughout this unit, we will be studying a variety of texts related to war and peace. Some of
the texts we will be studying include:

- Sun Tzu's The Art of War


- Thomas Hobbes' Leviathan
- Immanuel Kant's Perpetual Peace
- Plato's The Republic
- Machiavelli's The Prince
- Thucydides' The History of the Peloponnesian War

These texts will provide us with a greater understanding of the concepts of war and peace, as
well as the different ways in which they can affect people and nations. We will also be looking
at current events, news articles, and other sources to better understand the complexities of war
and peace in the modern world.
