The article was written by Muhammad Arif*, Putri Endah Syaifani, Yudi Siswadi, Jufrizen
Faculty of Economics and Business, University of Muhammadiyah Sumatera Utara, India, on
2019 on the title of “Effect of Compensation and Discipline on Employee Performance”. The

on employees’ performance. The study was conducted to determine the effect of compensation
and work discipline on performance at the Office of Highways and Construction of the Road and
Bridge Technical Implementation Unit of North Sumatra Province.
Part Three:: Research Methodology
The author used all 47 employees as a sample and collected data by interview & releasing
questionnaire. He also tried to use multiple linear regression, hypothesis test and simultaneous
test to analyze data for his research.
Part Four: Construct/Research Questions
The writer tried to use interviews and questionnaire for his research even though it is not clear to
analyze and understand the types of questions and analytical process in a simple way whether
they are critical or not. He stated as all employees of above listed company were used as a
sample for his questionnaire. But all employees are not to be considered as a sample.
Part Five: Critical thinking: Contributions and limitations
5.1. Contributions
According to the paper the researcher concluded as compensation and the Discipline of work has
positive and significant impact on the performance of employees on the organization under his
research. We support his conclusion ideas concerning the effect of compensation on the
employees’ performance and work discipline. He also tried to indicate the effect using different
scientific techniques and research methods by collecting different numerical and graphical data.
The researcher had put the quoted references used on the research on the reference part
accordingly for readers’ further reference.
5.2. Limitations
As a methodology section the researcher has circulated questionnaire and has applied interview
tests for all of the company’s employees instead of taking sample of some employees. We also
observed grammar problem, incorrect page, repetitive and unknown words & ideas which will
make the research unclear, vague and rubbish. Having concluded the research, the author

described some suggestions to be applied on the company under his research, but it should have
been included before conclusion. In addition, the weakness of the writer is lack of indicating
clearly the number and kind of people whom the questionnaire is delivered and what type of
findings has been collected.
Part Six: Further Development
In our opinion the techniques the author has been used are good to some extent but they should
be strict and company concerned. Because we recognized there are multiple numbers of
techniques used in this research but not clear and neat to understand.
The researcher should use neat and clear writing styles in order to meet his study’s aim. The
author didn’t show the possible inter-relationship between compensation and performance of
employees in the end of study of his conclusion part. That means, the increase in the
compensation will be followed by an increase in employee performance. Performance may
improve if the compensation of employees increased. Labor disciplines also a positive effect on
employee performance. The increase in labor discipline will be followed by an increase in
employee performance.
