Nature’s Heroes

(Science Role Play – How to control or mitigate with climate change?)

Narrator: Good Morning! We are the Group 3 and we are here to present to you our
short roleplay on how to control or mitigate with climate change which entitled Nature’s
Heroes. One morning at the class of Ms. Honrado.
Maegan: Good Morning class! Since next week will be Earth Day, I will give you an
individual performance task on how you can control or reduce climate change. You will
submit to me a report and pictures of your activity that will help our nature on the said
topic. The most appropriate task will be awarded as Nature’s Hero and will get a token
from me. You may start after class, do you understand?
All students: Yes Ms. Honrado.
Narrator: After their class, Zian immediately goes at the Science Club.
Zian: Good afternoon, Ms. Totto. I want to sign up to Act Now campaign on climate
change. I believe that I should add my voice to this critical global debate.
Chellysses: Okay, you may sign up here Zian and you can join them to recruit more
members outside. Here is the placard.
Narrator: Meanwhile, at the Yes O meeting.
Richelle: What will you do on our Science performance task?
Kafer: I will document our project here at Yes O where we recycled all the bottles and
clean our environment. How about you?
Richelle: Since I love plants, I will focus on planting trees and cleaning our
environment. Our family participated recently on our Barangay beautification. Did you
know that every year approximately 12 million hectares of forest are destroyed and this
deforestation, together with agriculture and other land use changes, is responsible for
roughly 25 per cent of global greenhouse gas emissions.
Arkin: Nice trivia! Me, since we just installed a solar panel on our roof, I think we
should also restrain our power use. We should be more efficient: turning our heating
down a degree or two, if possible. Switch off appliances and lights when you are not
using them and better yet buy the most efficient products in the first place and that also
help us save money and of course mother nature.
Narrator: All of them are seriously doing their Science performance task. On the day of
the awarding, while Sofia is walking to school, she saw Szarina and Nheil at the
entrance.
Sofia: Hi Szarina! Hi Nheil!
Szarina: Hi Sofia, did you just walk from your house to here? I thought you hate walking
and would rather ride a jeepney.
Sofia: Oh well, our Science performance task made me realize one thing and that is I
should transform my transport. I made a research and find out that transport accounts
for around a quarter of all greenhouse gas emissions and across the world. Also, it is
good for my health.
Nheil: Wow! Me I just focus on what I love and believe that will help lessen the climate
change.
Szarina: What is that Nheil?
Nheil: Food, what else? I just do not waste food. According to a study, people globally
waste 1 billion tonnes of food each year, which accounts for around 8-10 per cent of
global greenhouse gas emissions. I only buy what I need. How about you Szarina?
Szarina: Well, I emphasize the conservation of water. Saving water reduces carbon
pollution too.
Sofia: We really learned a lot from this performance task. And now I am excited who
will be the Nature’s Hero.
Narrator: The time has come to announce the Nature’s Hero and everyone are excited.
Maegan: Good morning class! Today is the day that I will announce the winner. I would
like to commend all of you. You did your performance task in a unique manner and I
hope that it will not stop here. With that, our nature’s hero or heroes rather are……all of
you. (all students applauded) Congratulations! You all will get a 100% on this task.
Before we end, let us remember that the climate emergency demands action from all of
us and everyone must play our role to help control or mitigate this threatening change,
okay?
All students: Yes Ma’am
Narrator: And that concludes our role play. Even the simplest steps will gain a lot on
protecting our nature. We should start now.
Maegan: As a student of Ricardo P. Cruz Sr. Elementary School, we commit to
participate in helping our mother nature against climate change.
Richelle: First, we will spread the word. We are encouraging everyone to reduce our
carbon pollution. Let us speak up!
Chellysses: We must use renewable energy. Advocate to our community to install
more renewable infrastructure such as solar panels.
Kafer: Electrify your home and transportation.
Szarina: Conserve energy. It’s critical that we find ways to use less energy.
Nheil: Conserve water. We have a lot of good reasons not to waste water and
conserving energy is one of them.
Sofia: Let us change our transportation. Let us start walking, biking and using shared
transportation both public and private.
Arkin: Consume less. It’s not about deprivation, its about living in a way that will sustain
our lives and other life on this planet.
Zian: Let us plant trees. He who plants a tree, plants a hope.
Allen: We can all play our part to protect our home. [will hand out brochures] We can all
be…
