ASSESSMENT ON WASTE MANAGEMENT PROGRAM: A MODIFIED CASE

ANALYSIS

There was one thing that Barangay San Isidro cared most about, and that was our
environment. They're always announcing to clean the front of our houses. There's a specific
time and day to collect the trash, and sometimes the workers of our barangay make sure to
clean the canals and spray against dengue. Since our barangay is near the Sta. Rita Eco Park,
they were always present when we had a tree planting program. Some parts of the Eco Park
are located in our barangay. That's why we used to clean it and make it beautiful as one of the
tourist spots in Sta. Rita. "Tapat ku, Linis ku" is a project for the barangay. There's no other way
but to learn how to save mother earth by disciplining ourselves. As we say, it always starts
within ourselves. Years ago, in front of the houses, the barangay officials provided a big
recycled container that could be used for planting a tree depending on the designated person.
It's not only a eco-friendly competition, but it also helps people produce beautiful things that can
protect the environment.

Why do people tend to forget how to save and protect Mother Earth by not thinking
about how a simple piece of candy wrap can affect the environment?

Take a reusable bag instead of plastic bags for groceries. Any kind of bag will do,
except for plastic. Small pieces of plastic can kill many kinds of marine life. What more if it is a
bigger piece of plastic? We all know that this solution has been used already, but this time, I
want to make sure that all stores as well as people are required to use bags like paper bags,
tote bags, foldable bags, and other bags except for plastics. It may look weird to other people,
but it doesn't make sense at all. The important thing is that we know how to protect our mother
earth.

Make a program for each barangay to have a specific day for general cleaning in front
of their houses. The volunteers of the barangay will patrol around to check if they are cleaning.
Every day there's a designated place or barangay to clean. Help people to understand the
importance of our environment. They will be able to learn and realize as a result of participating
in this program. It is our responsibility to make our environment clean and safe.
 Spreading awareness amongst people in our community by telling them what we have
done to our environment and what could be the consequences if we don’t take action. This
action is to make them know what could be the consequences if they continue to not care for
the environment. Explain to them that we are the reason why we suffer in the end. Tell them that
the best way to participate in this action starts from our homes. The goal of this action is to
make sure the whole community is clean and not a single piece of garbage is found lying here
and there.

One of the ACAs I chose to quickly resolve the existing problem is to use reusable
bags instead of plastic bags in all grocery stores. If it's okay, it could be mandatory for all. It's
fine if the buyers bring their own bags every time they go shopping. It is more likely to use these
because they're reusable and reliable, unlike the plastic bags. We can use different bags that
we can comfortably bring anywhere, like paper bags, foldable bags, and tote bags. We must not
only care about ourselves but also about the animals like fish and birds that are full of micro-
particles of plastic in their bodies. It is sad to hear and see that, because of our behavior, they
are the ones who are suffering. We should be aware of how the Earth's condition is today. They
say the earth will be destroyed, but how can we be sure about it? The Earth would not be
destroyed if we, the people, knew how to protect it by disciplining and educating each and
everyone.
