GROUP 2: BACKGROUND OF THE STUDY

(PARAGRAPH 1)
According to the study of Almahasees et al.(2021), the COVID-19 pandemic has significantly
impacted teaching in Jordan, with online learning replacing classroom instruction. Two online
surveys were conducted to understand teachers and students' experiences during this period
without face-to-face instruction. The study found that while online education is useful during the
pandemic, its efficacy is less effective than face-to-face learning and teaching in Jordan, using
popular platforms like Zoom and Microsoft Teams.

(PARAGRAPH 2)
The International Journal of Innovative Research and Scientific Studies (2023) conducted a study
here in the Philippines. The study analyzed the challenges faced by schools in Mountain
Province, Philippines during the pandemic, focusing on remote learning. The challenges included
difficulties in module dissemination, lack of tools, poor internet access, poor learning materials,
unprepared parents, teachers' lack of training, insufficient learning management plans, and online
plagiarism. Solutions included home visits, tutorials, PTA involvement, remediation classes,
stress management seminars, and integrated learning strategies. The study recommends offering
learning management plans with both short- and long-term objectives and professional training
for instructors
(PARAGRAPH 3)
The COVID-19 pandemic has brought about significant changes in education, leading
institutions like the Philippine Christian University - Dasmarinas (PCU-D) to shift from
traditional in-person instruction to a "blended" learning mode. This study aims to compare the
performance of humanities and social sciences students at PCU-D in face-to-face versus online
instruction during this transformative period. It is important to note that the sources used in this
research primarily encompass the entire province of Cavite. The researchers anticipate that
students may have encountered challenges with online learning due to issues such as limited
internet accessibility. However, they also acknowledge the potential benefits of innovative online
teaching approaches discussed in the supporting articles. By employing data analysis techniques,
including surveys, test scores, and academic achievements, this study seeks to identify the most
effective teaching methods for humanities and social sciences students at PCU-D. The findings
from this research will provide valuable insights for faculty, administrators, and policymakers,
helping them refine instructional strategies and improve student outcomes in the post-pandemic
educational landscape.
