PGD UI 2024!
Chemical Product Design Competition (CPDC) is an annual
international competition for university students from a diverse
field of study, focusing on designing applicable and economically
viable chemical-based products. CPDC encourages students to
innovate and create products that can solve global issues and
challenges based on the core competencies of chemical
engineering. Every year, CPDC receives more than one hundred
abstract submissions and is participated by more than fifty top
national and international universities.

What is
?
Chemical Product
Standard Industrial Classification defines chemical products as any
products in which the manufacturing process uses basic chemicals and
utilizes chemical processes. Chemical products are then further
categorized as basic chemicals, intermediate chemicals, and finished
chemical products.

In the Chemical Product Design Competition, the final product

should be for direct consumer consumption. Accordingly,
products should be developed according to this year’s theme.

For further understanding in the process, principles, and procedure of

chemical product design, we recommend you to read “Design and
Development of Biological, Chemical, Food, and Pharmaceutical Products”
book by J.A Wesslingh, Soren Kill, and Martin E. Vigild can be adopted.

Needs
Selection

Ideas Manufacture

Needs
Identify customer or market needs, and translate them into quantitative
product specifications. As top tips, take the problem you want to solve and
turn it into a key question that needs to be tackled.

Ideas
Generate numerous product ideas to address the needs. Remember, when
it comes to ideas, always link them back to the consumer.

Selection
Sort and screen those ideas to select the best ideas for commercial
development. Be wise with the method or technique that you used in
deciding the idea.

Manufacture
Formulate the product and process flowsheet, and also estimate the costs
involved to prove that your product is doable, profitable, and ready to
create impacts.

This year, PGD UI 2024 bring forth the theme of embracing disruptive
innovations as a catalyst to cultivate a greener earth. We believe
that groundbreaking innovations and novel approaches hold the
promise to address pressing issues like climate change, resource
depletion, and pollution. As the future is in your hand, please utilize
CPDC 2024 as your stepping stone towards creating the best
chemical products to sustain our planet.

Sub-Theme
Personal Care
In today's society, people are now more actively focused on their health, and this has influenced
how they choose and buy personal care products. Health and beauty industry all in an all time
high, making it into one of the industry with tremendous growth potential. As we approach the
era of sustainability, it's also important to consider the environmental impact of personal care
products, as aspects like raw materials, manufacturing, and distribution play a significant role in
determining their ecological footprint. Therefore, can you create a product with consideration
for not just your health and beauty, but also for the environment?

Households
Taking a step towards sustainability doesn't have to be grand. It can start with everyday
household products. By reimagining the designs, production processes, materials and
technologies, positive changes can be made in your daily life, be it through innovation in your
cleaning products, kitchenware, home maintenance, or household appliances. Can you
innovate your way towards a greener Earth?

Packaging
Packaging is ever-present in our lives and it's time to make it more environmentally friendly.
Adopt innovative solutions and reconstruct how products are packaged, distributed, and
consumed. Let's welcome transformative innovation in packaging and establish a more
sustainable future for ourselves and future generations!

Material Green Energy

Energy is essential for carrying out various processes in life. Often forgotten, energy source
materials can be a source of environmental problems. With the development of energy
materials to be greener, novel materials can contribute to the advancement of sustainable and
renewable energy technologies. These innovative materials are designed to enhance energy
storage capabilities, optimize energy conversion processes, reduce environmental impacts, and
enable transitions toward a greener and more sustainable future through ultimately accelerate
the global shift towards a low-carbon economy.

Participants will be charged a fee that must be paid if they are declared to have
passed the first stage (abstract submission). Payment fee for participating in the
second stage will be informed later on.

Finalist Announcement
March 17th, 2024
Finalists will also be charged a fee that must be paid to attend the offline final
sessions in University of Indonesia. The fee will be used to cover accommodations,
meals, and transportation from hotel to competition venue and vice versa. The
finalist fee will be informed later on.

Terms & Conditions

PARTICIPANT
Each participant must be an active undergraduate student (pursuing a
bachelor’s/diploma degree) until April 2024, proven by a student card
All participants should be a part of a team consisting of 3-5 members
including one team leader
Each team is studying in the same educational institution and has at
least one member from engineering major
Each participant can only be a member of one team
Each team has to fill the registration form via the registration link
available in pgdui.co
All registered participants must follow all stages of the competition
every time they make it to the next stag
If any of the points stated above are not fulfilled, the team will
immediately be disqualified

COMPETITION
The competition is divided into three stages
Extended Abstract Selectio
Full Paper and Pitch Deck Video* Selectio
Final Presentatio
Only eight teams will be selected as the Grand Finalist and proceed to
the Final Presentation Stage
One team can only submit one product idea
The proposed product must be related to the theme and one of the
subtheme of the CPDC PGD UI 202
Pitch Deck Vide
A 3-minute video showing the existence of customers’ actual
demand and how to get investors to fund your product
development

The product must be original and follow these requirements

Never been submitted to other similar competition
Never been commercialized (never been sold
Never been published in professional journal
The three stated points must be proven by a Statement Letter with a
stamp of duty (Materai) submitted along with the 1st Stage Materials
Submission. Violation of this rule leads to immediate disqualification
All registered participants must be original and follow all stages of the
competition every time they make it to the next stag
All of the competition materials must be done in Englis
Do not put your University’s Attributes into the proposa
The materials submitted for each stage must follow the requirement in
this guidebook or the attached dumm
Any fraud or cheating done by participants during the competition will
result in immediate disqualificatio
The decision of the judges and the committee is absolute and fina
Any act of plagiarism is strictly prohibite
Any change of rules will be informed to the participants directly through
email and our social media

Extended Abstract
The general idea of the product is written in an extended abstract format
that must not be longer than three pages excluding the references
The extended abstract must be written in English
The extended abstract consists of
Product concept (including product background, description, methods, etc.)

Feasibility analysis (including materials availability and affordability, technological

and economic feasibility, environmental impact, etc.)

References
The extended abstract must be written in the format below
Paper Size : A4

Font Type : Times New Roman

Font Size : 12

Spacing : 1.15

Margin : Left = 3 cm; Top, Bottom, Right = 2 cm

Paragraph : Justified
For title, the font size and type should follow as written in the Extended Abstract
Dummy, which will be sent after completing the registration.

Organize the keywords alphabetically

Each team must send the .pdf and .doc format of the abstract file along with
the statement letter to cpdcpgdui@gmail.com
Name the email subject as
Extended Abstract Submission_Sub-theme Number_Team Name
Name the abstract files as
Abstract_Sub-theme Number_Team Name.
Name the statement letter as

Submit the document before Sunday, 7th January 2024, at 11.59 pm (GMT+7
Jakarta time). Successful submission will get a confirmation email from the
committee at least 3x24 hours after submission.

Scoring Parameters
The maximum score given is 100 points. The submitted product idea must be
relevant to this year’s annual CPDC theme and subtheme. The judges* will focus
on the following parameters when evaluating the extended abstract:

35% Originality and Innovation

20% Needs and Specification

Survey (10%)

15% Technical Feasibility

Product manufacturing (15%)

30% Green economy aspect

Economical attractiveness (10%)

Added value to environmental (10%)

*Score given by the judges can’t be refuted.

Point Reduction
Submission delay will result in a reduction of 1 point for every 2 minutes
Each formatting mistake (stated in the Extended Abstract Format section) will
reduce 1 point.

Registration Process
The registration is open through PGD UI 2024 website pgdui.com/cpdc from
November 1st 2023 to December 17st 2023
If your registration is successful, you will receive an email for the deadline
abstract information.
