Brainstorming Sheet

1. Brainstorm popcorn product ideas. First, consider your target market.


Do you want to make a gourmet product that appeals to more sophisticated
tastes, or do you want to make a product that is fun for children? Secondly,
what image do you want to portray?
 Describe the desired target market for your product with respect to
demographics (age, gender, occupation, religion, ethnicity, income level,
etc.) psychographics, and geographics. You do not need to cover all of the
categories—only those that apply to your target market. It is important
to select a target market that will be the focus of your entire campaign.
Use proper market segmentation vocabulary. Describe the target market

2. Will your product be part of an existing line of products or is it the first of its
kind for a new company OR an existing company that is starting a new line?
Explain.
First kind of a new company, that deals with kids snacks and healthy
alternatives.
3. Which category does your product fall under: convenience good, shopping good,
specialty good, or unsought good? Explain.
Shopping good – because we hope to stand out and stop people from there
Convenience shopping and pick a healthier option
4. Make a list of ingredients you will need (shopping list). Include the item and
quantity in the chart below. Please be specific. You will need enough for one
batch.

5. Develop a 5-8 question survey about your product idea/concept. Use both
open-ended and forced choice questions.
 Create your survey in a separate Word document or Google Form.
Print the copies you need or save the form to a file. Try to keep each
survey to a half page.
 Each person in the group needs to distribute the survey to at least 10
people.
 Do you need to modify your product concept based on the surveys?
Explain.
 Turn in a copy of the survey and a summary of your combined results
(one per group).

7. How will you position your product? How will your product stand out? What is
the competitive edge? Consider: price and quality; features, benefits, and
values/beliefs; in relation to competition; and in relation to other products in a
line. Explain your strategy.
Our product will stand out due to our bright colors, cheap prices and healthy
ingredients. It will make people re-think whether or not they want to buy the
sugary popcorn. Instead of buying the sugary one they will get ours instead.
8. What is your tagline/slogan for the product?

Forever Snacking’ on Popcorn.

IMPORTANT: We will be making the products on ___Monday____ during


class. You must bring in your ingredients on that day. It is our only day in the
Foods lab. YOU MUST NOT wear open-toe shoes. Hair must be tied back. We
