Check the packing list for parts received and make sure you have everything listed
before signing off on the packing list or bill of lading. Chief Industries, Inc. must be
contacted within (7) seven days after delivery if there is a shortage of parts.
Unloading: When unloading the truck, layout various components according to the
number identification and accessibility to the construction site. The following
describes the basic order in which the components will be assembled.
Storage of Materials: All galvanized items should be protected from weather and
moisture condensation to prevent the formation of white rust. Small parts, such
as bolts, nuts, washers, etc., are just as important to an installation as the large
ones. Make certain these are located and checked before disposing of containers
or packing. Ideally, these items should be stored in their shipping containers until
ready for use on the project. They have been packaged to protect against moisture
and each container is identified as to its content. Sheet steel should be stored with
one end low to prevent moisture condensation. Chief Industries, Inc. shall not be
held responsible for materials that are not protected or stored properly after
delivery.
Claims for Shortages or Damaged Parts: All claims for shortages or damaged
parts must be indicated at the time of delivery. An authorized representative of
the contractor must be responsible for checking the material as it is unloaded from
the truck. If material is unloaded at the building site, and the installation is
subcontracted, we recommend that the contractor be informed of his
responsibilities. Signing the packing list is your confirmation of complete
shipment. If delivery is incomplete or damaged you should promptly file a claim
with the delivering carrier. For shortages determined upon receipt of shipment, a
back order will be immediately issued and priority given for earliest possible
delivery. Shortages determined after acceptance of materials will be handled as a
special house order and will be given priority for earliest possible delivery. The
customer will be charged for these materials. If he receives an allowance from
Chief Industries, Inc., his account will be credited. Chief Industries, Inc. liability
Tool and Equipment Requirement Estimate: Please note that this is a partial list
of the tools and equipment needed for installation. Individual installations may vary.
Tips and Shortcuts: The parts are packaged to reduce cost. For the most efficient
construction of the complete project please consider the following:
Foundation Considerations
The foundation and anchoring are critical on all tower structures. Variables such
as soil conditions, quality of concrete and reinforcement must be taken into
account when designing and costing your foundation.
Chief Industries Inc. does not design foundations and is not responsible for the
foundation or anchoring of the tower system to a foundation. A qualified and
licensed engineering firm should be consulted to design your foundation to meet
the requirements for your project and the appropriate building codes.
Chief Industries Inc. will provide the design engineer with additional information
related to the structural characteristics of the tower including:
Note: Dimensions “A” and “B” are found by measuring parallel to the tower,
from the centerline of base plate to centerline of base plate.
Dimension “D” is found by measuring parallel to the tower, from the centerline of
anchor bolt to centerline of anchor bolt.
Dimension “C” is a check dimension to verify the bolt pattern. This is found by
measuring the centerline of the anchor bolt to centerline of the anchor bolt.
Use the correct bolts and bolt torque values as specified by a qualified consulting
engineer. Verify anchor bolt grade, protrusion from concrete and minimum
embedment for your foundation before proceeding with the installation. The
foundation is critical to the structural integrity of the tower system.

Before you start refer to the staging layout drawing attached with shipment and sort the
tower components according to type and stage, in the order they will be used during
construction.
Shown below is an example of a staging layout. This is an example only – you must
follow the staging layout custom supplied with your order.
Tower Height = 65’
Post stage = 0 5’ Post Note:
Diagonal stage = 0 5’ Diagonal
Tower Height indicates
Tower Height = 60’
Post stage = 0 10’ Post
the tower height at the
Diagonal stage = 0 10’ Diagonal top of each tower
section.
Bolt Torque
The correct bolts and bolt torque values as specified and provided by Chief Industries,
Inc. must be used throughout the entire assembly of this Tower System. Failure to
follow these instructions could result in structural damage and/or failure of the Tower
System.
Tower Sections
Before starting make sure you have a copy of the packing list, this will assist you in
identifying the correct part numbers required for your system.
All local, state and federal safety regulations and requirements must be strictly
observed and enforced.
Note: Leave all hardware (bolts, nuts, washers) loose until all components in a
single bay have been added. This will allow you to square and plumb each bay and
ensure that tolerances do not accumulate.
Verify the correct tower type / style by looking at the weld dots located near the
end of the Tower posts.
1. Place tower posts into position. These connections will require (8)
3/4” x 2-1/2” Grade 5 bolts with lock washer and nut for stage 0-3
and (8) 1” x 3-1/2” Grade 8 bolts with lock washer and nut for stage
4-6.
These connections will require (5) 3/4” x 2-1/2” Grade 5 bolts with
lock washer and nut. On section heights 5’ and smaller these
connections will require (3) 3/4” x 2-1/2” Grade 5 bolts with lock
washer and nut. Bolts used inside the adjustable slot require (2) 3/4”
flat washers, installed one each side of the ear plate. Note: Top
section heights 5’ and smaller do not require a bolt inside the post ear
plate adjustable slot.
b. When using 20’ posts, mount only one (1) horizontal brace to
the center ear plate and one (1) horizontal brace to the top
ear plate.

Tower bay sections may be assembled at ground level and then lifted into
place with an appropriate capacity crane.
Note: If assembling more than one section at ground level, verify that
internal cross braces are installed. Install temporary bracing for construction
purposes if not provided with shipment. Stacking one section at a time is
recommended.
Before assembly always refer to staging layout. Once the entire tower has
been assembled verify that the top bay has end caps on the tower posts or a
top load beam attached to prevent water moisture from leaking into the
tower and causing damage to the tower system.
Mounting Lug
2. Bolt the first internal cross brace to the underside of the internal
brace mounting lug. These connections will require (2) 3/4” x 2”
Grade 5 bolts with lock washer and nut.
Internal Brace
3. Bolt the second internal cross brace to the first internal cross brace,
with flanges back to back. Make sure to connect the braces together
at all three bolt locations.
4. Torque bolts to required specifications.
Access Bracing
Access braces are installed in a tower
whenever equipment is installed through the
tower, or when the diagonal bracing may
interfere with the proper placement of
spouting or other equipment. Access bracing
may also be installed for personnel access to
specific areas of the tower.
To save time and assist as a quick reference guide, the main component parts and the
main assemblies created from these specific components will be shown on the
following pages. Take note of the orientation of these parts in the top level assemblies
