ROOT-FORM ENDO-OSSEOUS IMPLANT – Components

(very important for NEET-MDS Exam)

Anatomy or Parts of an Implant:

Implant body/fixture screw: Portion of the implant system placed within the bone.

Cover screw/sealing screw/healing screw/1st stage cover screw: Seals the occlusal surface of the implant during
osseointegration. Prevents the overgrowth of the tissues over and in the implant.

Healing abutment/temporary gingival cuff/healing collar/healing cap: A dome-shaped screw that is attached to the
implant in the second stage, to maintain the opening through the tissue until the restoration is completed. Length
varies from 2 to 10 mm.

Healing cap/comfort cap/temporary screw/abutment healing cap: A cover that is attached to the top of a transmucosal
abutment protecting the internal threads and interface surfaces of the abutment.

Abutment healing cap

Standard abutment/tissue extension/per mucosal extension/transmucosal extension: An intermediate component

placed between the implant and metal framework/restoration providing support and retention for a fixed removable
restoration.

Transmucosal extension

Tapered abutment/conical abutment/trans or per mucosal abutment: An intermediate component placed between
the implant and restoration, providing support and restoration for a fixed removable restoration.

Hex driver/hex tool/screw driver: Used for placing and removing all hex screws (abutment fastening screws,
impression post and healing abutments). Available in two lengths short for posterior and long for anterior.

Hex driver

Abutment driver/seating tool: Used to seat abutments directly into implants.

Impression post/impression pin/transfer pin/post/impression coping: Component used during the impression
procedure to transfer the intraoral position of the implant to the same position on the cast.

Laboratory analogue/implant/abutment analogue/fixture replica/implant body analogue: Replicates the implant for
use in the laboratory cast in order to fabricate an implant supported prosthesis.

Post and lab analong

Temporary coping/cylinder or provisional abutment: Provides support and retention for acrylic temporary and
provisional restorations.

Fixed abutment/straight abutment/coping abutment/abutment post: An abutment used for cement retained
restorations available in 15 and 25 degrees.

Plastic sleeve/waxing sleeve/castable/plastic coping: A castable wax pattern used to form an abutment during the
laboratory waxing procedure.

Gold cylinder/gold sleeve/gold coping: Premachined abutment that is waxed and cast to its interfaces directly on to
the transmucosal abutment.

Prothesis retaining screw/coping screw: Screw used to secure a screw retained metal bar framework or restoration
onto transmucosal abutments (conical or standard).

Universal ratchet or torque wrench: Used for torqueing the implant and abutment.
