As a part of the grand opening, the Metro Richmond Zoo will pick three lucky
elementary schools in the Richmond schooling district for a field trip to the facility. Staff
will provide a ribbon cutting ceremony with their mayor present, complimentary lunch,
and a butterfly craft for the event. For those who aren’t chosen, they are able to come
from 9:30am-5pm on Saturday and Sunday free of charge, however parent admission
is permitted and those proceeds will go towards any endangered butterfly species of
Metro Richmond Zoo choose.
WHY: At The Metro Richmond Zoo education is an essential pillar of their mission.
This organization holds field trips, day camps, and behind-the-scenes tours to educate
our youth on wildlife conservation throughout the year. With this new exhibit, children
can experience the life cycle of a butterfly firsthand. This hands-on experience will
provide more knowledge of the habitats, science, and conservation, of what this species
goes through. All of the Metro Richmond Zoo’s staff is highly qualified to handle both the
children and animals involved.
