METRO RICHMOND ZOO IN VIRGINIA OPENING A MAJOR EXHIBIT NOV. 1 ALL ABOUT
INSECTS WITH SPECIAL WALK-THROUGH BUTTERFLY GARDEN

WHAT: Metro Richmond Zoo (https://metrorichmondzoo.com/), a privately owned, for-profit zoo in


Chesterfield County, Virginia is opening a major exhibit all about insects. This new exhibit will feature
unique attractions such as a walk-through butterfly garden, a new insect-themed bakery with
insect-shaped pastries, and entertainment such as music and activities for kids. The zoo is offering deals
for those who are interested in seeing the new exhibit such as hotels, restaurants, and entertainment in the
area. Admission for the new exhibit is $25.95 for adults and $18.95 for children.

As part of the grand opening, Metro Richmond Zoo is donating 15% of its proceeds to the North
American Butterfly Association. The money raised from this new exhibit will help fund the
conservation and study of wild butterflies in their native habitats and keep them safe from lepidopterist
studies.

Saturday: 11:00 a.m.– 6:00 p.m.
Opening day new exhibit for media: Saturday, Nov. 1 from 9:00 a.m.to 5:00 p.m.

WHY: The Metro Richmond Zoo aspires to protect animals through conservation programs and inspire
guests by providing up-close, educational encounters with the wild. Through the unique animal
interactions, they offer their visitors, the zoo hopes to advance animal education and conservation and
encourage visitors to have a renewed motivation to get active in animal conservation when they leave the
zoo. The new insect exhibit is dedicated to showing awareness of the beautiful insects around them and
why it is important to give them a habitat to thrive. Since the Zoo is partnering with the North American
Butterfly Association, the exhibit, and gardens will feature hundreds of ornamental and easy to
maintain plants that are native to different countries around the world. Each bed in this special
attraction will belong to a specific butterfly.
