Assessment

Language and Literature Command Terms

Justification: Give valid reasons or evidence to support an answer or conclusion.

Compare and contrast: Give an account of the similarities and differences between two (or
more) items or situations, referring to both (all) of them throughout. In language and
literature, this may involve finding and evaluating the significance of similarities and
connections between texts and requires the student to make a literary analysis.

Identify: Provide an answer from a number of possibilities. Recognize and state briefly a
distinguishing fact or feature.
1. Describe the main character in your story. Use different types of character, character traits
and details from the text to support your response.

The characters in the Story of Megan are the mom, her little sister called Pam and the main
character is a girl called Megan. Megan is a protagonist in the story.

Megan is a very displeased girl who spends her summer looking after her little sister and at
the end of the story , she was being a kind person because her friends thought that Pam was
cute.

2. Which type of conflict/s does the main character face in the story? Why? Justify your
answer by using quotes from the story.

The type of conflict that the character would face in the story was Character Vs. Character
because her little sister Pam was such a nuisance and she found her sister very annoying
and would always cause trouble and not listen to anyone.
3. What is the importance of the setting? If the setting were different, how would it influence
the character?

The location of the story is at home and the importance of the location is that it tells you where
the story is taking place. If the story was to be taken place inside an airport and their family
were going for vacation, Megan could have been taken with another family and sent to watch
over their sister on the airplane instead.

4. What theme did you discover from this story? You may write or draw your answer. Provide a
detailed justification of how this theme is shown in the text using evidence from the story.

The theme that I discovered from the story is that taking care of a sibling might be really hard
even if your summer vacation is extremely busy because when Megan found out that she
must spend the whole summer taking care of Pam ,she might not have any free time to do
what she wants to.
5. Which story element do you think is the most important in your chosen story? Discuss the
value of this element in the story using evidence from the text.

I think the most important story element is the plot because the plot tells me what is happening
in the story, The plot of the Story of Megan is that she has to spend the whole summer taking
care of her little sister and she found that she had no free time to do what she wanted to do.

6. Choose one story element- theme or conflict, to compare and contrast between two texts..
a. Using the two stories, complete the Venn Diagram to compare and contrast
(similarities and differences) of the SAME element.
b. What is the theme OR conflict in each story?
i. What are the similarities in both stories (overlapping circles)?
ii. What are the differences in both stories (separate circles)?
You are required to write your response using the Venn diagram. This assessment needs to be
uploaded onto Managebac.
