ADOBE ILLUSTRATOR TUTORIAL: HOW TO DRAW A LINEART BADGE

Meet a new tutorial for aspiring illustrators. If you've recently mastered Adobe Illustrator, this tutorial is a great way to
practice drawing the trendy badges that are often used for extreme sports design. Most often, such as mountaineering
or even just hiking in the mountains or in the forest with tents.

Draw a shield

Take the Rectangle Tool (M)and draw a rectangle. The shape's fill is off, the stroke is 3 pt thick .
Then use the Pen Tool (P) to add an extra point. The rectangle should be selected, and the Pen Tool should be placed in
the center of the upper side of the rectangle and left click. If Smart Guides are turned on in Illustrator ( Ctrl + U ), then
tooltips in the form of construction lines will show you the center.

In the same way, we put a point in the center of the lower side of the rectangle.
Now you can select the top point with the white arrow of the Direct Selection Tool (A) , and move it a little higher using
the arrow keys on your keyboard. Move the lower point down accordingly. Our task is to make a shield-like shape.

Next, we need a copy of the freshly baked shield. Copy the object by using hot keys Ctrl + C , and then insert a copy of
the source code through top Ctrl + F .
Right after that go to Effect> Path> Offset Path .

And we indent inward. The copy will become slightly smaller, forming a double line.
Finally, expand the effect through Object> Expand Appearance .
Making the Ribbon

Take the Rectangle Tool (M) and draw a rectangle like in the picture below. Use the Align panelto center objects if they
will initially be uneven.

Using the Pen Tool (P) , place a point in the center of the side of the rectangle.

On the opposite side, we also put an additional point.

Then these points need to be pushed inward a little. Select the right point first. Press the left arrow on the keyboard
several times to move the point. Then select the left point, and move it to the right, making the same number of
clicks. This will move the points the same distance. But if you're wrong a little, then it's okay. We will distort the tape in
the next steps, so small errors are completely invisible. But in general, if you are interested in symmetrical drawing in
Illustrator, then pay attention to Live Mirror templates . With their help, it is very convenient to draw symmetrical
objects.
So, to distort the tape, you need to select all three points on one side. Take the Direct Selection Tool (A) , and while
holding Shift , select the three points on the right.

Press the up arrow on your keyboard and the right side of the ribbon will begin to rise.
We just need to get rid of the intersecting lines. To do this, take the Scissors Tool (C) , and by clicking on the lines of the
shield, cut the strokes. Points will appear in the places of the cuts, and the contour will open there.

All that remains is to delete the cut lines using the Delete button on the keyboard. And adjust the outline of the shield
through the Stroke panel so that the tips of the lines become rounded ( Round Cap ).

Adding Details The

badge is almost complete. It remains to add a few lines. They can be drawn with the Line Segment Tool .

Then we write the text. If you haven't encountered text in Illustrator before, here's a tutorial for beginners - Text Basics.

When everything is ready, the badge can be placed on any background and recolored in any color. In this case, I used a
vector background made from a blurred photo. You can learn how to make blurred backgrounds in Illustrator in this
