GENERAL INSTRUCTION OF ENERGY METER INSTALLATION

Description This report gives a brief idea regarding powering up & installation of energy
meters & its measuring devices.

For KW measurement EM Pro device & Rogowski coils are used.

The EMpro energy measuring devices are universally deployable, high-

measure, evaluate, and process voltages and currents in single, two and
three-phase power supply systems.

Rogowski coil The Rogowski coil is used to measure AC current and is primarily intended
for subsequent installation on existing bus bars. Subsequent installation
around the conductor is possible because you can separate out the
measuring line of the Rogowski coil.

Rogowski coil According to the Bus bar design of vessel, a study is to be conducted to
Installation determine number of Energy meters required for the most effective monitoring of
power consumed, which will determine number of energy meters required and its
associated equipment’s.

Installation of Rogowski Coils on Busbars

Rogowski coil can be mounted on the bus bars of incoming DG’s / Feeder boards.
A common position on busbar can be determined for mounting of Rogowski coils
to reduce the number of components required for energy measurement. If the
load on a particular section is to be measured (e.g., Refer system on container
ships), coils can be mounted on the output bus bars of distribution breakers.

On Feeder Cables
If the bus bars are not accessible due to less space, Rogowski coils can be
mounted on the incoming/outgoing cables.

Rogowski coil The installation of Rogowski coils on the bus bar is as follows:
Installation
• Place the power rail holder onto the top edge of the power rail,
making sure that it is straight. (as Fig.2)
• Turn the thumbwheel to the right (hand-tight) and make sure that the
holder is firmly attached to the power rail.
• Turn the bayonet locking of the Rogowski coil to the left (to release
the measuring line).
• Pull the coil line out of the housing.
• Route the coil line around the power rail.
• Push the flange of the coil housing onto the two guide ribs of the
thumbwheel until the limit stop is reached. (as Fig 3)

• Push the coil line into the housing. (as Fig 4)

• Turn the bayonet locking to the right until you hear the measuring
coil click into place.
• Make sure that the measuring coil does not touch the power rail to
be measured or any neighboring power rail, since the maximum
permitted temperature of the signal line is +80 °C.

Energy Meter EMpro Make: Phoenix contact.

The device is a highly accurate energy measuring device for measuring
electrical parameters in low-voltage systems up to 690 V AC (phase/phase).
The device is designed for the DIN rail and enables the measurement,
counting, and display of all electrical parameters in single-, two-, and three-
phase networks with and without neutral conductor (symmetrical and
asymmetrical).
The parameters like KW, Current, Voltage, KWHr can be viewed from the
Energy meter display unit by scrolling down as well as by connecting
through a LAN cable.

• Energy meters to be mounted inside MSB within 10 m close to

Rogowski coil location.

• A 220 V AC supply must be fed at L & N terminals to power up

Energy meter from a spare breaker in MSB/ECR.
• A reference voltage of 440V AC must fed to energy meter from a
spare breaker in MSB.

The indicated elements are:

1. LCD display, backlighting
2. Operating buttons for displaying measured values and for changing
the configuration.
3. Pulse LED

The device is snapped onto a DIN rail in the control cabinet. Fig.7. If you
install the device in an unsealed control cabinet, you must cover the
terminal blocks to ensure the consistent degree of protection of the device.
Safeguard the voltage and current measurement inputs against
unauthorized access by installing terminal covers.
The connections used are:

• RC1, RC2, RC3: - Current measuring input. (Rogowski Coil with

shield)
• ETH: - RJ45 connection socket
• (FE): - Functional earth ground
• V1, V2, V3, VN: - Voltage measuring input. (Reference voltage
AC440V)
• L, N(L): - Supply voltage (AC220V)

Wiring & Fitting

• A suitable location to be spotted in the MSB to mount all the energy
meters together.
• All Rogowski coils will terminate at this section of the MSB.
• 220V Power supply for EM to be given at L, LN terminals looped
through two pole breakers (Supplied) from a spare breaker in MSB.
• Shield cables of the each Rogowski coil should be connected
together with the Blue wire to terminals B1 B2 and B3 of EM
respectively.
• Two 2 pole breakers are supplied for powering up the EM pro
device. (220V Supply)
• Feeding of three phase supply voltage to the EM’s should be done
by taking 440V, 3 Ф Supply from a spare breaker in MSB.
• This 440V Supply to be given to input of 8 3phase MCCB
(Supplied) and output of each breaker to be connected to each EM
respectively. Care must be taken not to reverse the polarity of RST
and Rogowski Coils connection to EM’s.
• The powering up of EM pro & reference voltage feeding should be
done with the supplied single core cables. (three diff colors)
