This assignment carries 20% of your continuous assessment mark. The allocations of the marks
are as follows:
i. Peer evaluation – 5%
ii. Interactive video – 15% (WEEK 11)

REQUIREMENTS:

1. Form a group that consists of 4 – 5 members.

2. Prepare an interactive video presentation based on the following task below.
3. You are required to conduct a research on the framework of takaful industry in Malaysia.
Choose one (1) takaful operator from the list below and each group should not have the
same takaful operator as the other groups.

d. Great Eastern Takaful Berhad.

4. You are required to conduct research on the following requirements:

A. Introduction
▪ Explain the background of the takaful industry in Malaysia.
▪ Legal framework of Malaysian takaful industry: Key Milestone, History & Development
of the industry from 1984 until 2022.
▪ Regulatory and development of takaful industry regulations.

B. Body

Based on the chosen takaful operator by your group, explain the following:
▪ Company’s history and background.
▪ People and business model.
▪ Find at least two (2) products of the company which consist of one (1) life
protection/critical illness takaful and one (1) medical card protection takaful. Discuss
and compare the product features, schedule of benefit, policy terms and conditions
and also to highlight the product specialty with at least one (1) competitor.
▪ Highlight the takaful business model/shariah concept applied in the selected takaful
product.
▪ Governance of the selected takaful operator and shariah committee.
▪ Profit/loss of the company for the past three (3) years. Discuss the performances.
▪ Highlight the differences between Takaful Act 1984 & IFSA 2013 in view of Takaful:
Explain the scope of covers and salient features of each act. Discuss at least four (4)
differences of current IFSA 2013 & Takaful Act 1984.

E. Conclusion: Explain your findings and what you have learned from the discussion with
your group members through the completion of this project.

CRITERIA FOR THE PRELIMINARY MATERIALS PRESENTATION

• Title wordings. (concise and specific)

• Title page. (title, name of lecturer and group members, date of submission)

INTRODUCTION AND BACKGROUND

• General overview of the area of study.

• Use an interactive slide feature.
• State the main point and explanation, not too many words on the slides.

CONCLUSION

• The conclusion should be based on the topics discussed.

DOCUMENTATION & APPENDED MATERIALS

• Bibliography/References.
• Appendices.
• Formatting, writing style, grammar, and spelling.
• Students are encouraged to consult the lecturer for any unclear instructions.
• The duration of the video should not exceed 30 minutes.
• Video submission Date: Week 11: by 30/06/2023.
• Strictly no plagiarism.
• Marks will be deducted for any late submission.
